UT Tyler wrapped up a successful Lone Star Conference debut season with a 5-2 defeat to 12th-ranked LSC champion Angelo State

Box Score TYLER, Texas -- UT Tyler's first season of Lone Star Conference play ended with a 5-2 defeat to NCAA Division II's No. 12-ranked Angelo State Sunday, but the Patriots' debut season in the LSC certainly qualified as a success.

The Patriots were 1 of only 2 LSC programs to win 3 individual matches in a conference match against Angelo State, which posted an undefeated conference record to claim the LSC women's tennis championship. In addition, UT Tyler finished the season with a 12-5 overall record which included a 5-3 mark in conference play.

In Sunday's clash with the Rambelles, UT Tyler picked up one doubles victory and a pair of singles wins in the 5-2 defeat. Tanvikhaa Saravanan posted wins in both singles and doubles, teaming up with Eva Riekenbrauck at No. 3 doubles for a 6-4 victory before winning her match at No. 1 singles by retirement against Valentina Gonzalez, who is currently ranked 13th in the Oracle/ITA Division II women's tennis individual singles rankings.

Saravanan bounced back from a 6-2 opening-set defeat to win the second set by a 7-5 margin, at which point Gonzalez retired from the match. Leony Deutschman added a thrilling 3-set win at No. 2 singles, and she also rallied from an opening-set defeat to record the win over Eva Ovcina. After Ovcina won the first set by a 6-3 margin, Deutschmann collected a 6-4 win in the second set to force the third set, which went to a tiebreaker. Deutschmann outlasted Ovcina in the tiebreaker by a 14-12 margin to claim the win.

Angelo State won all four of the remaining singles matches, posting straight-set wins at No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6, while Chloe Chawner won her opening set at No. 4 singles in a 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 defeat.

With Sunday's win, Angelo State completed the regular season with a 14-3 overall record and a perfect 9-0 LSC record.
