UT Tyler Claims LSC Men’s Tennis Clash

UT Tyler won a battle of conference unbeatens Saturday with a 5-2 win over Cameron which put the Patriots on top of the LSC men’s tennis standings

Box Score TYLER, Texas -- UT Tyler continued its impressive start to the Lone Star Conference men's tennis schedule, claiming the top spot in the conference standings as the only unbeaten team in conference play after posting a 5-2 win over previously unbeaten Cameron on Saturday.
 
The Patriots seized the early lead, claiming the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions, and the Patriots claimed 4 of 6 singles matches, including 3 in straight sets to produce the win in a crucial conference matchup.
 
Egor Shestakov and Jan Lucca Marquardt combined for 4 of UT Tyler's 5 team points, as the duo claimed victories in the top two positions of the singles lineup after claiming wins in doubles play. Shestakov teamed up with Moritz Mayer for a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles, and Marquardt teamed with Michael Apple for the 6-1 win at the No. 1 doubles spot.
 
In singles play, Shestakov posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Oscar del Granado at the top of the singles lineup, while Marquardt battled for three tightly contested sets for a 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (3-7), 7-5 victory at No. 2 singles.
 
Like Marquardt, Gonzalo Fernandez Gil also won an opening-set tiebreaker at No. 3 singles, and he closed out his singles win in straight sets with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 victory. Jonas Dixon registered a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles.
 
With the win, UT Tyler has won 3 straight to start LSC play, improving to 6-7 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while Cameron falls to 8-6 overall, 3-1 in the LSC.
 
Up next for the LSC-leading Patriots are two matches on the road next in Silver City, N.M., where UT Tyler will meet UT Permian Basin on Thursday, April 8, and Western New Mexico on Saturday, April 10.
