OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. – The UT Tyler women's soccer team suffered their first defeat in Lone Star Conference play on Saturday afternoon in a 2-1 overtime loss against Oklahoma Christian.
The golden goal for Oklahoma Christian came in the 98
th minute in the first overtime period as the Eagles found the back of the net on two of their four shot on goal attempts in the match. The Patriots once again generated more chances than their opposition with 18 shot attempts as compared to nine attempts for Oklahoma Christian, but couldn't find the back of the net in their two shot on goal attempts in the overtime period.
Senior
Priscilla Rincon scored the equalizer after a first half goal for Oklahoma Christian in the 20
th minute with just over five minutes remaining in regulation. Rincon redirected a corner kick that bounced around a few touches in the Eagles box into the back of the net at the 84:15 mark to force overtime.
That Rincon goal was one of six Patriot shots to find their way on target in the second half alone, including a shot from freshman
Alexa Hernandez that rattled off the goalpost in the 51
st minute. Westbrook had the lone shot on goal attempt for the Patriots in the first half.
Freshman
Sydnee Garner led the way with three shots for the Patriots on the night. Westbrook and
Jordan Colbert both had two shots.
UT Tyler will return home for their next match in a Lone Star Conference contest against two-time defending LSC Champions a no. 9 ranked DBU on Sept. 29 at 6 p.m.
