ALEXANDRIA, LA. – The University of Texas at Tyler women's soccer team notched win number two on the young season thanks to five different goal scorers in a 5-0 win over LSU Alexandria on the road on Saturday afternoon.
The Patriots controlled all 90 minutes of action in their second straight win to open up the 2021 season, utilizing a herd of goal scorers on their 26 shots throughout the contest. Keeper
Camri Cecil made four saves to ensure her second clean sheet of the week following the Patriot's 2-0 win on Thursday night against Harding in the season opener.
Sophomore
Sarah Flannelly got the scoring started on Saturday afternoon with her second goal of the season in the 28
th minute. Flannelly's goal was assisted by freshman
Faith Adje, who doubled the Patriots advantage less than 10 minutes later with her first goal of 2021.
The goal and an assist from Adje gives the freshman four points and counting in just 60 minutes of action through her first two games in a Patriot uniform after an assist in Thursday night's contest.
UT Tyler outshot the Generals by a 13-4 margin in the first half, and netted three more goals in the second half to post the highest single game goal total for the program as a Division II institution and the most since a 9-2 win over Concordia back on Oct. 27, 2016. The Patriots notched 13 shots in the second half as well, and put 16 shots on goal throughout the entirety of the match.
Sophomore
Jordan Colbert extended the advantage to three in the 51
st minute before freshman
Tatum Mercer and
Kylie Criner both recorded their first collegiate goals in the final 10 minutes of action to pad the 5-0 victory.
Five different Patriots put multiple shot on goal attempts on the board for UT Tyler as Colbert and Adje both finished the 90 minutes with three shots on target.
The 2-0 start gives the Patriots plenty of momentum as they look to finish up the final two games of their four game non-conference schedule this fall. UT Tyler will get a full week of preparation before returning home for the next contest on Saturday, Sept. 11
th against Fort Lewis College.
