TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler had two goals called back and couldn't manage to find the back of the net in their 17 shot attempts on the night to fall by a 1-0 margin to St. Mary's in their home finale on Tuesday night.
A foul call on the opposing keeper and an offside call against the Patriots took two goals off the scoreboard for UT Tyler in what would be a tightly-contested match for the entirety of the 90 minutes of action. St. Mary's used a goal from their leading goal scorer on the year in Juni Ejere in the 32
nd minute to provide the difference in the match.
The Patriots will now await the results of tonight's Midwestern State and Texas Woman's match to determine the scenario for Friday afternoon's season finale for the Patriots at Eastern New Mexico. UT Permian Basin, who entered this week tied for UT Tyler with 11 conference points, had 10 of their points nullified by the Lone Star Conference for competing with an ineligible player.
UT Permian Basin now officially has just one point in the LSC standings, all but removing the Falcons from consideration for one of the seven available spots in the LSC Women's Soccer Championships.
UT Tyler seemingly broke the scoring opening in Tuesday's match against St. Mary's with a goal just 20 minutes into the contest, but had the goal disallowed after a Patriot was called for interference on the Rattler keeper. Another ball found the back of the St. Mary's net in the 50
th minute, but that goal was negated as well after an offsides call on the Patriots.
Those two opportunities were largely the best changes of the night for UT Tyler despite holding a 17-to-16 advantage in the shot clock at the conclusion of the contest. The Patriots managed to put just two shots on target, while St. Mary's forced keeper
Camri Cecil into seven saves with eight attempts that found their way on net.
Senior
Kaycee West and sophomore
Faith Adje each led UT Tyler in shots with four on the night. Cecil's seven saves in the match tied a season high for the Lago Vista, Texas native.
UT Tyler will almost certainly require a result, if not a win, in their 2022 season finale set for 1 p.m. in Portales, N.M if they hope to maintain their seventh-place positioning in the league standings and earn one of the seven spots in the LSC Postseason Tournament.
