Alvarado's Seventh Goal and Sound Defensive Effort Earns UT Tyler 1-0 Win Over Lubbock Christian

Senior Samaris Alvarado scored in the 23rd minute to give UT Tyler a 1-0 lead that would hold for the rest of the way against a previously unbeaten Lubbock Christian side

TYLER, TEXAS – Senior Samaris Alvarado scored the game winner and the UT Tyler defense stayed sound in a 1-0 win over Lubbock Christian on Senior Day for the program on Saturday afternoon.

Alvarado's seventh goal of 2022 in the 23rd minute of play was more than enough to compliment a UT Tyler defensive effort that stifled the previously-undefeated Lubbock Christian side for a vital three points in Lone Star Conference play. Alvarado put away a cross from junior Sydnee Garner that was set-up via a pass from defender Kylie Criner to put the Patriots ahead 1-0 midway through the first half.

The Patriots then leaned on a clean sheet from senior Camri Cecil, who was one of 10 seniors recognized prior to kick as part of the class of 2022 for the program, that featured a pair of saves against a dangerous Lubbock Christian attack.

The Patriots stand as the lone team to defeat a Lady Chap team in 2022 that fell to 6-1-5 on the year with the loss.

Senior Kaycee West rattled one off the crossbar and sophomore Faith Adje had a quality chance saved late in the second half to provide two of the seven efforts on goal for the Patriots along with the Alvarado goal. Adje and Alvarado both put a pair of shots on target on an afternoon in which UT Tyler posted 13 shots as a team.

Lubbock Christian had a shot of their own find the woodwork and then couldn't manage to find an answer to the Patriot defense despite 14 shot attempts on the afternoon. Cecil made two saves on those on goal efforts, and then directed a Patriot defensive backline that prevented any other true offensive threats throughout the match.

The win effectively jumps UT Tyler right back into the heart of the Lone Star Conference standings with eight points in league play and should give the team some momentum heading into what will the final six games of the LSC schedule over the coming weeks.

UT Tyler will begin the second half of conference play on Oct. 12th on the road against Texas Woman's at 7 p.m.
