A NEW DAWN
This week marks the LSC opener for UT Tyler, and they will look to repeat the successes of last season and add even more. The Patriots were eligible for the postseason for the first time in the Division II era in 2021-2022 and they capitalized on that, making the LSC Tournament and going all the way to the semifinals before falling in a tight contest to Texas A&M-Commerce and just missing out on an NCAA South Central Regional Tournament berth.
THE SEASON SO FAR
Early on in the 2022-2023 season the Patriots have been marked by strong defense and an efficient offense to move to 5-2 through the non-conference schedule. The Patriots are allowing just 57.9 points per game to their opponents and holding them to 34.3% from the field while averaging 13.3 steals per game. On offense, the Patriots are averaging 70.1 points per game on 42.5% shooting and are 33.3% from beyond the arc as a team.
WHAT COACH ALVIDREZ IS SAYING
On what she has learned about her team on the road: "We didn't get to practice as much, so we couldn't fix what we needed to fix. Going into Southern Arkansas our girls gutted it out. How we found a way to win is pretty promising to see this early in the season. We have some promising moments, but there are some things we need to fix to become more consistent."
The message leading up to the LSC opener this week: "We are able to correct a lot of things that needed correction. Every game is important in conference and in Division II. All these games matter and all these games will be tough. There are no breaks in this conference and continue to grow each week."
On playing at home for the first time: "Being on the road got a little tiring, so it's nice to finally be playing at home. It's nice to be in our own beds and it's a nice feeling to finally play in front of our home fans."
REGIONALLY RANKED
The Patriots are ranked for the third consecutive week in the D2SIDA South Central Region Rankings to start the season. This week they slipped to number ten in the rankings as they were previously ranked sixth in last week's release. West Texas A&M holds on to the top spot yet again and are followed by Texas Woman's, Angelo State, Colorado School of Mines, and Lubbock Christian in the top five.
