Patriots Women Ready for Final Home Games of 2022 Regular Season

UT Tyler will host St. Mary’s and St. Edward’s for the final home contests of the 2022 regular season on Thursday and Saturday.

TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler women's basketball will host their annual Pink Out Game on Thursday night against St. Mary's and Senior Day will take place on Saturday against St. Edward's as the Patriots close out their regular season in the Herrington Patriot Center.

LOOKING TO MAKE A RUN

Just five games remain on the 2022 schedule for the Patriots and there is still a lot to play for in terms of seeding for the LSC postseason tournament. As it stands, UT Tyler sits at number seven in the conference standings and would be in position to host a first round postseason game in the Herrington Patriot Center. Just one of the remaining games is against a team higher than them in the current standings.

SERIES HISTORY

Against St. Mary's, the Patriots are 0-3 all time with all three contests coming within the last three seasons. This will be the third contest to be played in Tyler, and most recently the Patriots went down by a score of 60-38 back on Jan. 30, 2021.

Against St. Edward's, the Patriots also are 0-3 all time and the most recent meeting came on Jan. 9, 2021. In that contest, the Patriots fell by a score of 64-37. Saturday's contest will be the third contest to take place inside the Herrington Patriot Center between the two teams.

THE SCOUTING REPORT

The Rattlers are one of the top rebounding teams in the conference, coming in at third in both total rebounds and rebound margin. They rank right in the middle of the pack in total assists and blocked shots.

Leading St. Mary's is fifth-year player Hannah Wilson. Wilson has started all 24 games this year for the Rattlers and is averaging 15.5 points per game on 49% shooting from the floor. She also averages 11.4 rebounds per game and leads the team in blocks, with 36.

Coaching St. Mary's is Jason Martens. Martens is in his 16th season coaching the Rattlers and holds an all-time record of 264-176. He is the winningest coach in program history and has led the program to five NCAA Tournament appearances.

St. Edward's is a top four team in blocked shots, free throws made, and free throw percentage amongst all LSC teams. The Hilltoppers are fifth in rebounds and rebounding margin in the LSC as well.

Lauren Catherman leads the Hilltoppers with 11.6 points per game on 44.9% shooting. She also leads the program in three pointers made and total steals. Catherman is one of four players for St. Edward's that has started all 25 games this season.

Coaching the Hilltoppers is J.J. Riehl. Riehl holds a record of 141-128 in her career, all 10 seasons of which have come at St. Edward's. She has led the program to their only two NCAA Tournament appearances in program history and is also the only coach to win two Heartland Conference titles at St. Edward's.

AROUND THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE

Going into the final stretch of games this season, West Texas A&M holds the top spot in the LSC standings. They are followed by Texas Woman's and Texas A&M-Commerce who hold records of 9-2 and 8-2. Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State hold records of 9-3, and Lubbock Christian sits at 10-4.

Due to weather related issues from previous weeks and COVID-19 protocols from earlier in the season, it is looking increasingly likely that a majority of LSC schools will not be able to play their entire regular season slate. In the event that games cannot be made up, LSC winning percentage will determine the conference seeding.

ON THE HORIZON

Following this weekend's home games, the Patriots will play three games in the final week of the regular season. Those will begin with a makeup game against Cameron on Tuesday, Feb. 22. After that contest, the Patriots will travel to Odessa, Texas to take on UT Permian Basin on Feb. 24 for a 5:15 p.m. tipoff. The final contest of the regular season will come against Angelo State on Feb. 26 at 2 p.m.
