Box Score 2 DALLAS, TEXAS – The University of Texas at Tyler's tennis teams battled it out in a neutral site contest against RV Harding on Friday morning but each fell by a score of 4-3.
Both teams battled in the doubles portion of the matches, but both lost the doubles point to go down by a score of 1-0. In the men's match,
Joaquin Bianchi and
Gonzalo Fernandez Gil paired up but fell by a score of 7-5.
Leon Sell and
Moritz Mayer and
Jorge Sala Frigeri and
Safar Rasulov combined to make the other two doubles pairs, but each fell by scores of 6-2.
On the women's side,
Delara Zamani and
Leony Deutschmann and
Brooklyn Ross and
Tanvikhaa Saravanan each paired up for the number one and two slots in women's doubles, but fell by scores of 6-3 and 6-2, respectively. The
Chloe Dix and
Chloe Chawner combination won the only doubles match of the duals, with a 6-3 victory.
With both teams trailing 1-0 heading into singles, both teams needed a spark to spur the comeback. On the men's side,
Joaquin Bianchi in the #1 singles slot answered the call. After splitting the first two sets by scores of 6-4 and 3-6, he won a gritty third set by a score of 10-4 to put the first point of the match on the board.
Fernandez Gil added to the momentum with a straight sets victory by scores of 6-4 and 6-3.
Safar Rasulov had to go to three sets, but came away with a comeback victory by scores of 6-7, 6-2, and 10-8. That put the Patriots up by a score of 3-1 in the match. However that was the final win of the contest for the Patriots men, as RV Harding rattled off three consecutive victories to win the match by a score of 4-3.
For the Patriots women, Zamani was the one to start the comeback. She too battled to a gritty three set victory. After losing the first set 3-6, Zamani closed out the match by letting her opponent win just one game over the final two sets and won with scores of 6-0, 6-1.
Deutschmann added to the positive run with a straight sets victory of 6-2, 7-6. With the Patriots up 2-1 in the match, the Bisons responded by winning three straight matches and ending the match.
Chloe Chawner took part in the #6 singles spot, and came away with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 victory to create the final match score of 4-3.
Both Patriots programs will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they take on Southeastern Oklahoma State in Arlington, Texas at 2 p.m.
