TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler tennis has picked up six total Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American honors as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
The Patriots have a singles member on both sides along with a doubles team on both sides. This is the first time in women's program history that three players have been named All-American in the same season, and it is just the fourth time in men's program history. This is also the most All-American selections in a single season between both teams.
Yona Bancarel represents the Patriots in women's singles, joining Muskan Gupta as just the second in the D2 era of the program to earn that honor. She went 17-6 in the dual match season with every match coming in the #1 line. She was also named to the All-LSC Singles First Team and was selected as the LSC Sportsmanship Player of the Year.
Bancarel also picks up an All-American nod in doubles, where she is joined by
Natalia Gorzny. The duo went 17-7 in their doubles matches this spring, all of which in the #1 line. They were each named All-LSC Doubles First Team, and also combined for their first ever ITA Cup selection in the fall semester. Gorzny also adds in an All-LSC Singles Second Team honor to her resume this season.
On the men's side,
Samuel Antwi picks up his first All-American nod in singles. He was nothing short of brilliant, going 23-2 over the spring season with the only two losses coming in the final two matches. He was named the ITA National Player to Watch, as well as the ITA South Central Region Player to Watch, the LSC Newcomer of the Year, All-LSC Singles First Team and All-LSC Doubles Second Team.
Daniil Felker and
Carel Wessel make up the final two selections as the duo were named All-Americans in doubles. The duo went 12-9 during the spring season with each match coming at the #1 line. They were named All-LSC Doubles Second Team, along with Wessel being named the LSC Senior of the Year and ITA South Central Region Senior of the Year.
