SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – The UT Tyler men's basketball team closed out play in the 2021-22 regular season with an 88-64 loss against Angelo State on Saturday afternoon.
Junior
Milan Szabo led the way for UT Tyler with 14 points on the evening and finished his outing 7-for-10 from the field. Angelo State led for the entirety of the contest behind a 50 percent (33-for-66) shooting effort for the field, and out-rebounded the Patriots by a 41-to-31 margin as well.
Angelo State built a double-digit lead at the 17-6 mark just over five minutes into the ballgame, and maintained a lead of 10 or more points from the 10:20 mark and on in the contest. The Rams led by as many as 25 In the second half of action as UT Tyler managed to cut the margin to just 11, the smallest deficit the margin would reach in the second half of play.
Seniors
Da'Zhon Wyche (13) and
Micah Fuller (12) both closed out their Patriot regular season careers with double-digit scoring efforts for a Patriot side that went 25-for-59 (42.4 percent) from the field on the evening. Wyche led the way with six rebounds and also chipped in four assists.
UT Tyler finishes the 2021-22 regular season with a record of 16-9, and has claimed the no. 11 seed in the 2022 LSC Men's Basketball Championships. The Patriots will travel to no. 6-seeded Midwestern State on Tuesday evening for the first round of the tournament.
The winner of that contest will take advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament set for Thursday at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas.
