TYLER, TEXAS – The Patriots men's and women's tennis programs will look to continue a strong fall as they transition into the team portion of the schedule in the spring semester.
LOOKING BACK
In the fall portion of the schedule, the UT Tyler women's tennis program enjoyed success at the ITA South Central Regional. On the singles side of the draw,
Leony Deutschmann and
Brooklyn Ross each made runs to the quarterfinals. In doubles,
Chloe Dix and
Gaini Ibrasheva paired up and made a spirited run to the semifinals.
For the men's program, they will look to defend their LSC regular season championship from the 2021 year.
Gonzalo Fernandez Gil and
Joaquin Bianchi will lead that effort as each made the ITA Cup as singles competitors and as a doubles pair. Fernandez Gil and Bianchi each lost their opening round matches, but both advanced through the consolation bracket and shared the consolation prize. In doubles, the pair lost to the number one overall seed, but the came back and claimed the consolation bracket there as well.
TOP RANKED PLAYERS
The Patriots women's program has two singles players and two doubles pairs that are ranked in the top 15 of the regional rankings. Ross and Deutschmann are ranked 12 and 15, respectively, in singles. In doubles, Dix and Ibrasheva are paired up to be the third ranked team in the south central region. Ross and
Tanvikhaa Saravanan are ranked 10 in doubles.
On the men's side, Fernandez Gil is ranked as the fourth best singles player in the country, while Bianchi comes in at number 11. As a doubles pair, the two players come in at number nine.
Egor Shestakov comes in at number 34 in the country in singles. Shestakov and
Nikita Chuev pair up to be the fifth ranked doubles pair in the region.
Moritz Mayer and
Leon Sell combine to be the third ranked doubles pair in the region.
THE SCHEDULE
Both men's and women's tennis programs will play just one contest at home in Tyler at the Summers Tennis Center before beginning conference play. That contest will be on Mar. 18 against Auburn Montgomery. The conference slate for both programs will begin on Mar. 25 with a road trip to Cameron.
COMING UP NEXT
Both progams will take on Southwestern on Saturday afternoon. Following that matchup, the Patriots women's program will make the trip to Edmond, Oklahoma to take on Central Oklahoma. That contest is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Following this weekend's slate, both teams will head to Arlington, Texas as the men's program will take on UT Arlington. The Patriots women will also take on the Mavericks, but it will go down as an exhibition.
