UT Tyler extended their win streak to nine straight LSC victories, and sits 23-1 on the year and 9-1 in Lone Star Conference play.
The Patriots were in control of both contests from start to finish, as they struck for eight runs through three trips to the plate in game one and then another three runs in the top half of the first inning of game two. The UT Tyler offense has now recorded 10 or more hits in each of their last five outings, and posted a batting average of .406 for the afternoon against the Pioneers.
Sophomore
Courtney Plocheck crossed home plate for the first time for either team to get the day started in the top of the second of game one on an RBI single from classmate
Avery Farr. The Patriots plated five runs off of just two additional hits in the frame as Texas Woman's walked across a pair of runs after allowing Farr and senior
Shannon Klaus to score on a fielding error.
That 5-0 lead was padded in the top of the third on a three-run homer from sophomore
Michelle Arias, who led UT Tyler with six RBI on the day. That homer came with two outs and scored senior
Bayli Simon and Klaus to make it 8-0 in favor of the Patriots.
The fast start offensively proved to be important as the Pioneers struck for a total of four runs in their next two trips to the plate to cut the deficit in half at 8-4 following four complete innings of play. The second UT Tyler homer of the day, this time off the bat of sophomore
Tatum Goff, quickly answered the brief shift in momentum and put the Patriots back ahead by a comfortable margin.
That two-run shot made it 10-4, a mark that would hold through the sixth and seventh innings as freshman
Kaylee Davis struckout four Pioneers in the final two frames. Davis took over for starter
Payton Foster, who 3.2 innings while allowing three earned runs, and picked up the win after her 3.1 innings of work to move to 4-0 on the year.
Davis fanned a total of six batters in those three innings, and allowed just a single earned run. Perez and Dominguez both had two hits in the win, while the homers for Arias and Goff gave each Patriot two and three RBI, respectively.
UT Tyler stayed hot at the plate and utilized 3.0 solid innings of work for game two starter Goff to run-rule the Pioneers in the 14-0 win in the finale. Goff surrendered just a pair of hits, and struckout five.
Back-to-back hits with runners on from Perez and Marek got the scoring underway immediately for the Patriots in that contest, as Perez drove in sophomore
Hanna Fradkin and Simon on a two-RBI double to put the first runs on the board. Marek followed suit with an RBI single down the rightfield line that scored Perez to make it 3-0 in favor of the Patriots.
Goff cruised through her first two trips to the circle and then benefitted from a five-hit performance in the top of the third from the Patriots that included extra-base hits from both Arias and Perez to make it 9-0. Arias scored sophomore
Courtney Plocheck and pinch-runner
Grace Davis on her triple that got the rally started for the Patriots before Perez ended the scoring in the frame with a two-RBI double that scored Fradkin and Simon.
That third inning nearly repeated itself on the next round of at-bats for UT Tyler in the fourth, as they put together five more hits and five more runs to make it 14-0. Arias, Dominguez and Simon all hit RBI singles in that frame, as the Patriots continued to extend their lead over the Pioneers.
Goff was credited with the win to move to 3-0 on the year, while senior
Sarah Gartman and sophomore
Morgan McAlexander each tossed an inning of relief to close out the game. Five different batters for UT Tyler had multi-hit efforts, including Plocheck, who went a perfect 3-for-3 and Dominguez, who went 3-for-4.
