TYLER, TEXAS – The UT Tyler men's and women's tennis programs hosted their first home LSC match of the season and looked as strong as ever as both teams completed a dominant 7-0 victory.
Leony Deutschmann and
Kanika Sivaraman paired up to get things going, and came away with a dominating 6-2 victory to put the Patriots on the board. The pair of
Brooklyn Ross and
Chloe Chawner followed close behind, winning their match by a score of 6-0.
That match clinched the doubles point for the Patriots, but
Chloe Dix and
Andrea Farris combined to win the third doubles match by a score of 6-1 to cap a doubles sweep.
Deutschmann played in the #1 singles position and delivered a straight sets victory while losing just one game over her match. Sivaraman was next up in the #2 singles position and also came away with a straight sets win while also dropping just one game.
With the Mustangs on the brink, Ross stepped up in the #3 singles position needing to win her match to clinch a UT Tyler victory. She responded in a big way, posting the third consecutive straight sets win, and also only dropping one game in her match.
In the #4 singles position,
Dnyanada Patil won her match 6-1, 6-4 to post another straight sets win. Dix battled in the #6 singles slot, and didn't drop a single game as she came away with a pair of 6-0 set wins.
The only set that the Patriots dropped came in the #5 singles position as Farris battled it out closely with Massiel Paredes. Paredes came away with a big 6-1 set win to go up 1-0, but Farris responded quickly with a 6-4 win of her own. That brought the match down to a tiebreaker, and Farris came up clutch with a big 10-5 set win.
That win gave the UT Tyler women a clean sweep on the day, winning by a score of 7-0.
Over on the men's side of the match,
Gonzalo Fernandez Gil and
Moritz Mayer paired up in the #1 doubles match and came away with a solid 6-3 victory.
Joaquin Bianchi and
Jonas Dixon paired up in the #2 doubles position, and also came away with a 6-3 victory to clinch the doubles point for the Patriots.
The only loss for the men's program came in the #3 doubles slot, as
Leon Sell and
Jorge Sala Frigeri came up just short by a score of 7-5 in an inconsequential match.
In singles, it was all Patriots as they came up with a strong showing of their own to follow the ladies. Each of the six matches ended in straight sets as the men capped off a big 7-0 sweep.
Bianchi took on the #1 singles position and earned the first singles point after a 6-4, 6-2 win. Fernandez Gil followed suit, claiming a 6-3, 6-2 win himself to make the score 3-0 in favor of UT Tyler.
Mayer was tasked with the #3 singles position and delivered the most dominant performance of the day for the men, winning 6-2, 6-0 in a match that gave UT Tyler the clinching point.
Safar Rasulov battled in the #4 singles position after not participating in doubles. He showed no signs of rust, collecting a 6-4, 6-3 win.
Yudai Watanabe continues to be a strong singles player, winning his third consecutive LSC match by set scores of 6-4, 6-2.
Jonas Dixon was in the #6 singles position, and posted a win by scores of 6-4, 7-6 to clinch the sweep.
Next up for UT Tyler tennis will be another home match at Summers Tennis Center on Saturday at 10 a.m. That will be the second consecutive home match for the Patriots and their final match of the week. The men's program will look to move to 4-0 in LSC play while the women's program will look to move to 3-1 in LSC competition.
