Patriots Tennis Completes Sweep Over UT Permian Basin

Both men’s and women’s tennis programs earned wins over the Falcons on Saturday as the men won by a score of 7-0 and the women won by a score of 4-3.

TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler tennis completed the sweep of UT Permian Basin in quick fashion on Saturday, leading to a 4-0 week of competition for the Patriots as they continued their strong start to LSC play.

On the men's side of the dual match, the Patriots started strongly, sweeping the doubles portion of the day and earning the all-important doubles point.

Gonzalo Fernandez Gil and Moritz Mayer got things started with a 6-3 victory in the #1 position. Following closely behind was the duo of Joaquin Bianchi and Jonas Dixon, as they collected a dominant 6-1 victory. In the #3 doubles position, Jorge Sala Frigeri and Leon Sell got a chance at redemption after yesterday's defeat, and they responded with a 6-3 victory.

With the doubles point in hand, the Patriots moved on to singles in hopes of collecting three quick points and securing the victory. Mayer battled in the #3 singles slot and was the first man on the board as he collected a 7-6, 6-1 victory to move the Patriots to 2-0.

Bianchi was up in the #1 singles slot and earned the second singles point of the day with a straight sets 6-4, 6-2 win to put the Falcons on the brink. Action turned to Fernandez Gil in the #2 singles position, and he looked strong through one set, winning 6-1. However, Patryk Kosinski battled back with a 7-5 victory in set two to even the match. That brought it all down to the third set, and Fernandez Gil exploded for a 6-2 win and clinched the day for the UT Tyler men.

Safar Rasulov competed in the #4 slot in singles, and after dropping the first set 6-4, came back with sets of 6-3, 6-0 to complete a huge comeback and earn another win for UT Tyler. Yudai Watanabe took on the #5 singles match, and delivered a 6-1, 6-2 victory. In the final match of the day, Dixon stepped up with a 6-2, 6-2 win to make it two consecutive 7-0 sweeps for the Patriots men.

On the women's side of the dual match, the Patriots also began their day with a big doubles sweep to earn the first point of the match. Leony Deutschmann and Kanika Sivaraman paired up and delivered a dominating 6-1 victory in the #1 doubles slot to set the tone for the women's program.

Brooklyn Ross and Chloe Chawner stepped up in the #2 doubles position and earned a 6-4 win themselves. In the #3 doubles slot, Chloe Dix and Andrea Farris teamed up for a 7-5 victory to finalize the sweep.

Over in singles, Deutschmann stepped in to the #1 singles position and didn't miss a beat from her doubles victory as she lost just two games in a straight sets win. That gave the Patriots a 2-0 lead and left them just two points shy of a win.

In the #2 singles position, Sivaraman was unable to recreate the victory from Deutschmann, and fell by scores of 6-2, 6-4 to give the Falcons their first points of the day.

With the Falcons beginning to work themselves back into the match, Ross tried to put an end to the momentum with a 6-1, 6-3 straight sets win to put the Patriots on match point for the day.

That match turned all eyes on Dnyanada Patil, and she took advantage of the opportunity and put together a dazzling display in her match. Patil joined Deutschmann in dropping just two games over her two sets and put up the final point necessary for a Patriots win.

Next up for UT Tyler tennis will be a road trip on April 9-10 as they make the short drive over to Dallas, Texas to take on DBU and then drive to Wichita Falls, Texas to take on Midwestern State. Both of those matches will be critical for both programs as they look to continue to push towards the top of the LSC standings.
