Men’s Tennis Selected as Number One Seed in South Central Region

The Patriots will make their NCAA Regional debut as a Division II program on May 10 against St. Mary’s.

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA – UT Tyler men's tennis will make history on May 10 as they will become the first Patriots athletic program since UT Tyler became Division II to host a regional matchup on their home court. That match will take place on May 10 at 11 a.m. at Summers Tennis Center in Tyler, Texas.

The Patriots were chosen as the number one seed in the South Central Regional following a huge run in the LSC men's tennis tournament that saw them claim their first ever LSC tournament title in just their first try.

UT Tyler is 13-8 on the season with wins over RV Harding, #22 Ferris State, and #25 Cameron on their resume. In their LSC schedule, the Patriots went 6-1, with their lone blemish coming in a close 4-3 defeat to Midwestern State.

In the LSC postseason tournament, UT Tyler got their chance at revenge, storming their way through the first two rounds with a 4-0 win over UT Permian Basin and a 4-2 victory over Cameron before facing off against Midwestern State in the finals. It was there that the Patriots continued that huge run, collecting another 4-2 victory to claim their first LSC championship as an official Division II program.

The South Central Region is composed of four teams, all from the Lone Star Conference. #1 seed UT Tyler will take on #4 seed St. Mary's in their only matchup in the regional. The other side of the South Central Regional Tournament will see #2 seed Midwestern State take on #3 seed Cameron.

The winners of each of those matches will make their way to the NCAA Tournament to be held from May 18-22 in Altamonte Springs, Florida. The tournament will be comprised of 16 teams, two from each region, in a single elimination bracket that will see all teams re-seeded once they qualify.
