TYLER, TEXAS – The UT Tyler men's soccer program posted a 6-0 win over Texas College on Saturday night after scoring three goals in each half of play.
The story of the evening for the Patriots was a flurry of newcomers making their impact on the contest as all six goals were scored by players new to UT Tyler in 2022.
The Patriots were on the attack early and often, posting seven total shots on goal in just the first 13 minutes as they stressed the Steers defense. At the 25 minute mark, UT Tyler went to the bench for their first subs, and the new additions struck quickly.
Just seconds after the substitutions, freshman
Nolan Giles stepped into the spotlight with his first goal in a Patriots uniform coming off of an assist by Thato Mecko.
Only two and a half minutes later,
Lukas Paulun jumped into the goal scoring category with a beautiful finish off of a
Brajdi Cekrezi pass. That put the Patriots up 2-0 early, and they kept their foot on the gas as Paulun scored again at the 41 minute mark from an assist by
Jacob Contreras and Giles.
The offensive pressure in the first half amounted to a 16-2 shots advantage for UT Tyler and resulted in six total corner kicks.
The second half saw the Patriots continue the steady pressure, and just eight minutes into action
Rodrigo Mendes finished off a pass from
Luis Mahecha into an open net to extend the lead to four.
In the 64
th minute, Giles stepped up and delivered a beauty of a goal and his second of the night after making several defenders miss before slotting one home with his right foot.
One final goal for the Patriots came from the feet of
Ralph Mangondoza, as he took a deflection from the Steers keeper and drilled a shot to the lower left side of the goal to extend the lead to the final score of 6-0.
The Patriots posted a total of 41 shots in the contest, and 20 of those went on goal. The defensive pressure allowed Texas College to post just three shots, with two of those going on goal.
For the game, that was the sixth highest shot mark in UT Tyler history, and the highest in the Division II era. The six goals tied the 10
th highest mark in Patriots history, and were the most goals in a game since September 27
th, 2019 against Southwestern Assemblies of God, which also ended in a 6-0 victory.
Of the six goals and the five combined assists on the night, just one of those was tallied by a returning player to UT Tyler. Those five assists are also tied for the 10
th highest mark in UT Tyler history.
Next up for UT Tyler will be a road trip on September 3rd as they head to Dallas, Texas to take on DBU in a non-conference contest. The Patriots will then head back to Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex on September 8 for the first game of a four game homestand.
