UT Tyler Puts in Valiant Effort in 1-0 Loss at #1 DBU

The UT Tyler women's soccer team put in the best effort for the squad in recent memory against no. 1 nationally-ranked DBU in a 1-0 loss on Wednesday night

DALLAS, TEXAS – The University of Texas at Tyler women's soccer team put in a valiant effort against #1 DBU in a 1-0 loss on Wednesday night.

Both sides began Lone Star Conference play in the defensive battle, as a DBU goal in the 17th minute from Annie Severide provided the difference in the match. The one goal difference was a stark contrast in the last three meetings between the two sides in Lone Star Conference play, as DBU won each of those matches by at least three goals.

The closest match between the two sides since they began competing against each other in 2019 illustrated what was an evidently better UT Tyler squad in 2022. The Patriots totaled three shot on goal attempts, all three of which came from the foot of junior Alexia Moreira, matching DBU in the category for the evening

Moreira had the best chances for UT Tyler in the first half, but couldn't manage to find the back of the net to compliment a sound defensive effort against one of Division II's best offenses.

Junior Sydnee Garner joined Moreira with multi-shot attempts for the evening with two.

UT Tyler will return home on Saturday with a 5-1 record, keen on returning to the winning form that spanned the entirety of the non-conference schedule. The Patriots were ranked no. 9 in the second edition of the United Soccer Coaches South Central Regional rankings after the program's best start in it's history with that 5-0 record to start the year.

That return home will pit the Patriots against UT Permian Basin at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
