TYLER, TEXAS – A pair of goals in the final 20 minutes of the match allowed UT Tyler to complete a comeback win over UT Permian Basin for their first Lone Star Conference victory of the year by a 2-1 final.
Senior
Samaris Alvarado scored the game winner on her sixth goal of the season in the 78
th minute after a heads up play by freshman
Brooke Mullins on a botched free kick by the Falcons. Mullins took the free kick away and found a wide-open Alvarado for the winning goal in the 78
th minute of play.
The victory moves UT Tyler to 6-1 on the year and 1-1 in Lone Star Conference play with their only loss coming at the hands of #1 DBU.
All three goals in the match came in the final 45 minutes of play as UT Permian Basin intercepted a pass and took the 1-0 lead on a Madi Grace Carriello goal in the 63
rd minute. UT Tyler effectively took control of the game from that point forward, and got the equalizer on a rocket shot from junior
Alexia Moreira in the 72
nd minute.
Moreira and senior
Jordan Colbert worked together off of a Patriot free kick to create space for a long shot from Moreira that found the top of the Falcon net to make it 1-1. Alvarado then put the Patriots ahead with the wide-open goal a few minutes later to put UT Tyler ahead 2-1, a final that would hold through the final 10 minutes of the match.
The Patriot defense was solid outside of the miscommunication on the Falcon goal, allowing just one other shot on target for the 90 minutes. UT Tyler outshot the Falcons by a 13-to-7 margin for the match, and put five attempts on target.
Alvarado led the Patriots with three shots for the match.
UT Tyler is scheduled to continue LSC play next week with a road contest on Wednesday night at Texas A&M International and a home match on Saturday against Oklahoma Christian. Saturday afternoon will serve as the annual Alumni Day for the program.
