RICHARDSON, TEXAS – Four UT Tyler Track & Field athletes were named to the Lone Star Conference Indoor Track and Field Preseason Athletes to Watch list as announced by the conference on Friday.
Ty McDaniel,
Ashton Turner,
Abeni Kratzmeyer, and
Marissa Agee were all named to the list for UT Tyler.
McDaniel heads into his final season with high hopes in the indoor season, specifically in the indoor weight throw. McDaniel has already set a new school record in the event at the first event of the year, a mark of 17.68 meters at the BSC Panther Ice Breaker. McDaniel finished in 6
th place in last year's Lone Star Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships in the event, and looks to improve upon that mark this season.
Turner is in just his second season with UT Tyler, and has already shown huge potential in a short time. Turner primarily competes in the hurdles category, and he came away with a pair of top 10 finishes in the 400 meters and 60 meter hurdles at the first event of the season while almost taking down the school record in the 60 meter hurdles. Turner placed just outside the finals in the preliminary round last season at the LSC championships, but already has shown that he is looking to make some noise.
Kratzmeyer is also in her second season at UT Tyler, but has already made waves across the LSC and national landscape in the pole vault. Kratzmeyer was a First Team All-American last season in the outdoor pole vault, and placed second at the LSC Indoor Championships with a mark of 3.80 meters. She is already the school record holder in the event and will look to try and make her first NCAA Indoor National Championships this season.
Agee is a mid-distance runner for UT Tyler, and has shown throughout her career her versatility in various events. Agee currently holds the school record in the 800 meters and is a part of the school record distance medley team. Last season, Agee placed 8
th overall in the LSC Championships in the 800, and will look to improve upon that mark in just her second season.
The Patriots will get back to work today at the Texas Tech Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas. Today's events will begin at 2:30 p.m. at the Sports Performance Center while tomorrow will get rolling at 11 a.m.
