TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler women's basketball slipped just two spots this week in the latest D2SIDA South Central Regional Rankings after a 1-1 week that saw them suffer their first Lone Star Conference defeat this season.
The Patriots handled their business on Thursday night against Texas A&M-International, taking down the Dustdevils by a score of 77-69. Against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday however, the Patriots could not find their form and suffered a 61-46 setback on the road.
UT Tyler now sits at 14-3 overall on the season which is by far their best start of the Division II era. The nine game winning streak that just ended was the longest winning streak of the Division II era, and you would have to go back to the 2015-16 season for Patriots basketball to find a longer one. In that season, the Patriots finished 30-2 and ended their season with a trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
Despite the defeat on Saturday, the Patriots are still a dominant team on defense. They rank 29
th in the country in field goal percentage defense at 35.5%, 31
st in steals per game at 11.2, and 36
th at scoring defense, allowing just 57.6 points per game.
This week in the regional rankings sees Texas Woman's take back the number one spot, followed by Angelo State and Colorado School of Mines. West Texas A&M comes in at number four, and Lubbock Christian rounds out the top five.
Next up for UT Tyler will be a five game homestand, kicking off with hosting Lubbock Christian and West Texas A&M on Thursday and Saturday of this week. Thursday's contest against the Lady Chaps starts at 5 p.m. and Saturday's game against the Lady Buffs begins at 1 p.m.
