KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – UT Tyler suffered a second-straight 3-0 defeat on Saturday afternoon against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
The Patriots battled their way back in both the second and third sets despite a slow afternoon on the offensive side of the net, but couldn't manage to force a fourth set. UT Tyler finished with a season-low 26 kills, finishing the match with a hitting percentage as a team of .055.
Texas A&M-Kingsville started the match out with a 14-8 lead and then scored six out of the final seven points of the first set to jump ahead 1-0 with a 25-23 first set win.
UT Tyler battled back from a 12-8 deficit early in the second set with five straight points to tie the frame up at 14-14. The Patriots took a 22-21 lead late in the set, but a 4-1 run in favor of the Javelinas close out a 25-23 second set victory.
The Patriots held the advantage for the majority of the third set, but a key run of seven unanswered scores for Texas A&M-Kingsville paved the way for a 25-22 victory.
Sophomore
Brylee Peterson led the Patriots with eight kills on the afternoon. Freshman
Shaye Koski totaled 14 digs to lead the defensive effort.
UT Tyler moves to 10-9 on the year and 4-4 in Lone Star Conference play.
The Patriots will stay on the road next weekend for matches at Texas Woman's and Midwestern State.
