Early Goal Paves the Way for Sixth Straight Tie for UT Tyler

TYLER, TEXAS – The University of Texas at Tyler women's soccer team recorded a sixth straight tie on Saturday afternoon with a 1-1 result against West Texas A&M.

The Patriots scored just over two minutes into the match, controlled the next 70 minutes of game time, and then conceded a West Texas A&M goal with 14 minutes remaining to notch a sixth point in Lone Star Conference play. UT Tyler out-shot West Texas A&M by a 13-to-7 margin in the match and a 9-to-3 difference in the second half, but managed to find the back of the net just once.

That score just over two minutes into the contest came off the head of junior Alyssa Palisi, who redirected a bouncing free-kick service from the foot of Brooklyn Robinson into the back of the net. That goal at the 2:03 mark etched a 1-0 score that would hold for the next 70 minutes of action.

Both teams notched four shots in the opening 45 minutes of play and settled into a back-and-forth defensive match after the quick Patriot goal to open the contest.

The Patriots picked up their output in the second half and put four shots on target in the final 45 minutes of play. West Texas A&M keeper Reagan Heelan came up big with saves on all four efforts, including two in the final five minutes of action.

West Texas A&M tied the contest in the 77th minute on what was effectively their lone quality chance of the match.

Junior Sydnee Garner led both teams with four shots on the afternoon, while five different Patriots secured a shot on goal attempt.

Palisi notched her second goal of the of the 2023 season while Robinson picked up her second assist.

UT Tyler sits 2-2-8 on the year and 0-1-6 in Lone Star Conference play. The Patriots will enter the final six matches of the 2023 schedule three points back of the magic seventh place standing in the LSC regular season standings.

The top seven teams at season's end will qualify for the 2023 Lone Star Conference Women's Soccer Championships to be held Nov. 7-12.

The closing stretch of the regular seasons schedule will get started for the Patriots on Saturday Oct. 21st at Lubbock Christian.
