Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Dalton Johnson

Lady Chaps Edge Patriots 1-0

An early goal provided all of the difference on Saturday afternoon as Lubbock Christian handed UT Tyler its first loss since September 20th.

LUBBOCK, TEXAS – UT Tyler women's soccer conceded an early goal but gave the Lady Chaps all they could handle as the comeback effort fell just short.

It is the first loss for the Patriots since September 20th against St. Mary's and just the second match without a result in LSC play this season.

The two teams got off to a stalemate start, as neither side found much footing through the first six minutes. Just under two minutes later however, the Lady Chaps struck as they scored at the 7:44 mark of the game with a goal that found the top right of the net to make it 1-0 in their favor.

That seemed to start an avalanche of offense for both sides, as they combined for three shots on goal in the next five minutes. Both Mable Pruter and Natalie Jones each launched shots on the net in that stretch, but the Lady Chaps keeper held her ground.

However, after that quick flash of offense, neither side would record a shot for the remaining 37 minutes of the half as both defenses held their lines and didn't allow for any offense to develop.

Lubbock Christian held a 3-2 shots advantage over the first 45, as well as a 3-2 corner kick advantage.

The second half began similar to the first, as neither team found their offensive stride out of the break. The Patriots managed the first shot in the 53rd minute, but it was off target and went out for a goal kick.

Sydnee Garner put the first shot on net of the second half in the 68th minute, but the Lady Chaps keeper continued to play a solid game and hold off the threat. Lubbock Christian would respond with their own offensive burst, but the Patriots held true as keeper Daniella Wilken made a pair of solid saves to keep the deficit at just one.

The Patriots over the final 20 minutes of action would put up a trio of shots, as Garner again forced the Lady Chaps keeper to make a save. Alexia Moreira would put up her own shot seconds later, but it was blocked before it could get on net.

One last gasp came in the final minute of play, as the Patriots earned a free kick in an advantageous spot and handed the ball to Moreira for the chance. She struck a shot that found the bottom left of the net, but again the Lady Chaps keeper held her line and held off the final gasp for the Patriots.

For the Patriots, Alexia Moreira led the way with three total shots and one on goal. Sydnee Garner came up with two shots with both going on goal. Three other Patriots recorded a shot on the day.

UT Tyler now returns home to the friendly confines of Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex on October 25th as they take on Texas Woman's. That game will also double as Blue Out and Alzheimer's Awareness Day.
