TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler collected a fourth straight result in Lone Star Conference play on Wednesday morning with a 1-1 tie against Texas A&M International.
Sophomore
Melissa Oliveira scored her first goal of the 2023 season early in the second half of action to provide the equalizer after Texas A&M International opened with a goal in the first half. Both teams posted 16 shots in the match that was largely an evenly contested battle throughout.
UT Tyler dominated the possession in the opening half of play, totaling eight shots, five of which made their way on target. Texas A&M International, however, was able to score the lone goal off of a set piece in the 14
th minute.
UT Tyler put four shots on target from that point forward in the first half, including a pair of great looks from Oliveria and senior
Payton Taylor, but couldn't manage to put across the equalizer despite holding 54 percent of the possession in the half.
Oliveira was finally able to tie the game at 1-1 less than two minutes into the second half of action, finishing a bouncing ball in the Dustdevil box for the score. Oliveira attempted a highlight-reel bicycle kick off a ball delivered in by defender
Mable Pruter and then got a foot on the bouncing ball after a mad scramble in front of the net to tie the match.
Texas A&M International would then go on to largely control the second half of action with 12 shot attempts. Keeper
Daniella Wilken, who took over for starter
Emily Clark in the first half, made a handful of heads-up saves in the 70
th, 74
th and 76
th minutes to keep the 1-1 score in-tact.
The best Patriot opportunity of the second half outside of the Oliveira goal in the early stages came in the midst of a pair of corner kicks in the 82
nd and 84
th minute.
Neither team was able to convert on their second-half opportunities, leading to the 1-1 tie at the conclusion of the 90 minutes of play.
Oliveira led the way with three shot attempts, two of which were on target for UT Tyler.
Alyssa Palisi,
Brooke Mullins and
Sydnee Garner all finished the afternoon with two shot attempts.
UT Tyler moved to 2-2-6 on the year and 0-1-4 in Lone Star Conference play following their fourth straight result.
The Patriots will return to the pitch on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. on the road against Oklahoma Christian.
