OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. – UT Tyler scored two goals in the final 20 minutes of action to notch a fifth consecutive tie in Lone Star Conference play at Oklahoma Christian on Saturday afternoon.
The Patriots dominated the late stages of the match after Oklahoma Christian jumped out to 2-0 lead and managed to find a pair of goals to secure the 2-2 result. Senior
Alexia Moreira cut the deficit in half in the 71
st minute and junior
Launa Torrez provided the equalizer in the 83
rd minute.
Oklahoma Christian held an 11-to-2 shot advantage through 45 minutes of play and carried a 1-0 lead into the 33
rd minute. Keeper
Emily Clark made four stops in the first half to limit the offensive onslaught for the Lady Eagles.
Oklahoma Christian doubled their lead in the 69
th minute with another goal to make it 2-0. The match from that point flipped solely into the hands of UT Tyler as Moreira cut the deficit in half with a well-place shot from just outside the box.
The graduate student's third goal of the season came off a beautiful one-touch pass from junior
Sydnee Garner that set up the finish. Senior
Annabel Westbrook earned a second assist on the goal after delivering a thrown in to the feet of Garner.
That 2-1 score held for just 12 minutes before the Torrez headed in the equalizer off of a cross from junior
Brooklyn Robinson. Robinson won possession on a physical battle with a Lady Eagle and delivered an accurate cross to the back post that Torrez headed into the bottom corner.
Keeper Danielle Wilken made a save just a few minutes after the Patriot goal to keep the eventual 2-2 tie in-tact.
UT Tyler scored on both of their shots on target. Oklahoma Christian totaled 17 shots on the afternoon while UT Tyler totaled six.
The Patriots earn a fifth straight point in conference play and move to 2-2-7 on the year.
UT Tyler will return home for their next match on Saturday Oct. 14
th against West Texas A&M.
