Patriots Unable to Keep Pace With Cougars to Conclude Colorado Trip

LAKEWOOD, COLO. – #7 UT Tyler was unable to keep pace with Colorado Christian in a 70-61 loss on Saturday afternoon.

Colorado Christian totaled 27 points and connected on 7-for-11 (63.6 percent) attempts from the field in the fourth quarter to pull away to a comfortable victory. The Patriots cut a 27-24 first half deficit to just 43-41 at the conclusion of the third quarter, but 11 unanswered points to start the fourth quarter ultimately pushed Colorado Christian ahead in the contest.

Sophomore Gabby Elliott had her best outing in a Patriot uniform with 20 points after converting eight of her nine shots from the field. Elliott paced the rebounding effort for UT Tyler to go alongside her efficient day from the floor with eight boards.

Neither team shot the ball well in the first 20 minutes of action as UT Tyler went just 10-for-26 (38.5 percent) and Colorado Christian 9-for-29 (31.0 percent). Seven of those nine first-half baskets for the Cougars came from beyond the three-point line, on an afternoon in which Colorado Christian went 13-for-34 (38.2 percent) from deep.

The Patriots on the otherhand made just a trio of three pointers in the game and have now dropped three straight outings to fall to 2-3 on the year.

Junior Tina Machalova had 12 points and hauled in six rebounds to extend her double-digit scoring streak to five straight to open up the 2023-24 season.

Senior Frances King totaled eight points and led UT Tyler with five assists.

The Patriots finished the game 22-for-60 (36.7 percent) from the field and just 3-of-18 (16.7 percent) from beyond the three-point line.

UT Tyler will return to Tyler for their home opener on Saturday, Nov. 18th at 1 p.m.
