LAST TIME OUT

It has been a little bit of a bumpy start for #7 UT Tyler, as they have battled their way to a 2-3 record through their first five. Last weekend they took on CSU Pueblo and Colorado Christian in a pair of big in-region matchups in Lakewood, Colorado. In those contests, the Patriots kept both games close, but eventually fell as both RMAC institutions held the upper hand down the stretch.

WHAT COACH ALVIDREZ IS SAYING

On the beginning of the season: "Sitting 2-3 is a little disappointing to say the least. It is good competition, but I know we are a lot better than what we have been so far."

On the focus for the team this week: "We need to dial in certain things. It's going to be great to get some practices under our belt and fix the things we need to fix. We're not clicking right now. We need to do a better job offensively and I need to do a better job preparing."

On playing inside the Herrington Patriot Center: "Just playing in front of our crowd and being at home. Protecting home court I think is extremely important. Winning is hard in the first place, but we have to do a good job of defending our home court."

NATIONAL ATTENTION

At the end of the 2022-2023 season, the Patriots were ranked #14 in the WBCA Top 25 Poll to round out the season of success. On October 31, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association released their preseason poll, and the Patriots were ranked #7. That is the highest ranking since all the way back on November 29, 2016.

THE LSC PRESEASON POLL

The Patriots were picked third in the preseason edition of the Lone Star Conference Poll, their highest since entering the conference. Angelo State took the number one spot, while Texas Woman's slotted in at number two.

For the Patriots, they earned 627 points overall and nine first place votes, also their first since joining the the conference. Meagan Mendazona was named to the Lone Star Conference Preseason Players to Watch list, and Grace Foster and Sawyer Lloyd earned Co-Preseason Player of the Year honors.
