TYLER, TEXAS – All 14 players that saw court time scored a basket in a decisive 92-42 win for UT Tyler over Arlington Baptist on Friday night inside the Herrington Patriot Center.
The Patriots (9-3, 4-0 LSC) out-scored Arlington Baptist (2-4) 22-3 in the first quarter and led by double digits for 35 minutes of game time in their seventh victory in a row. Friday's victory is the 19
th straight victory for UT Tyler on their home court and matches the third-longest active home winning streak in all of Division II women's basketball.
UT Tyler scored 68 of their points in the paint and 32 points off of 27 turnovers.
Lovisa Hevinder and
Gabby Elliott each went for 11 points to lead a Patriot offense that shot 56.6 percent (43-for-76) from the field.
Brooklyn Palmer and
Mariah Neal reached double-digit scoring figures as well with 10 points each.
UT Tyler out-rebounded their opposition by a 53-to-22 margin to add to the dominant offensive effort in the paint in the contest. The Patriots didn't allow a point for the first seven minutes of action, jumping out to a 16-0 advantage, and then closed out the first quarter ahead 22-3.
The advantage never dwindled to less than 20 for the entirety of the second quarter, resulting in a 40-12 lead at the half for UT Tyler. Arlington Baptist made just three baskets in the first half of play and finished the game 14-for-56 (25.0 percent) from the floor.
UT Tyler continued to generate offense throughout the entirety of the second half and closed out the 50-point victory by making 13-of-16 shots in the fourth quarter to put the finishing touches on the 92-42 win.
The Patriots notched 20 steals as a unit and added a trio of blocks as well.
Hevinder led the dominant rebounding output for the Patriots with seven boards, finishing her night with 11 points, seven boards and four assists. Graduate student
Montse Gutierrez filled up the box score as well with seven points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals.
UT Tyler will look to extend their season winning and consecutive home victories streaks on Tuesday afternoon in a 1 p.m. tip against Southern Arkansas.
