Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 DALLAS, TEXAS – UT Tyler women's tennis got off and rolling on the doubles side, and that momentum just kept on going in singles as they routed Harding 6-1.
Head coach
Chris Bizot said he wanted to play with the doubles pairings a little bit on the women's side, and he found exactly the right combination on Friday as all three pairs completed quick wins.
Allison Schwartz and
Akshaya Suresh came away with a 6-3 win in the number one slot, and the pairs of
Tanvikhaa Saravanan /
Kanika Sivaraman and
Brooklyn Ross /
Violetta Khisamova each came away with 6-2 wins in their slots to secure the opening point.
That moved the match over to singles, and Schwartz kept right on rolling as it took her just one hour to dispatch her opponent in straight sets with scores of 6-4, 6-1. Joining Schwartz in the quick wins was Sivaraman, who took just two minutes longer in her 7-5, 6-2 victory to put the Patriots just one point away from claiming the match. Between the two players, they would trail just three times total in their matches, with all three of those instances coming in the first set.
The next match would go Harding's way to cut the lead down to 3-1, but Saravanan was the deciding point as she came away with a dominant 6-2, 6-3 win while trailing just one time in either set to claim the match for UT Tyler.
Dnyanada Patil in the #6 slot also posted a straight sets win of 6-3, 6-4 and Ross also came away with a win in the #1 slot after winning the third set tiebreaker by a score of 10-5 to give the Patriots six total points.
On the men's side, the Patriots would battle tightly in doubles, but the point would eventually fall the Bisons' way as they took the early 1-0 lead. After a 6-3 defeat in the #2 slot,
Carel Wessel and
Jonas Dixon came away with a critical 7-5 win to knot up the matches. That left the doubles point to
Joaquin Bianchi and
Gonzalo Fernandez Gil, but they could not close the gap late in the match and fell 6-4.
After a pair of singles matches went Harding's way, the Patriots stood with their backs against the wall as they faced a 3-0 deficit. Needing a big rally, Fernandez Gil stepped up after dropping the first set 6-2 and won the next set in a tiebreaker to pull even. That momentum kept rolling in the final set as he won the tiebreaker again to put the Patriots on the board.
That set up several Patriots as they tried to hang close, but Harding would outlast a tiebreaker in the #1 slot before taking down Bianchi in straight sets to give them the win.
Both Wessel and
Yudai Watanabe forced three sets in their matches, but they would ultimately fall as the final score would be 6-1 in favor of the Bisons.
For UT Tyler, they get a quick chance to get right back into action as they head to Arkadelphia, Arkansas for a matchup with Ouachita Baptist on Sunday and then go to Magnolia, Arkansas to take on Southern Arkansas on Monday.
