Box Score 2 ARKADELPHIA, ARKANSAS – It was a huge day for UT Tyler tennis on Sunday afternoon as both teams collected their second wins of the 2023 season against a tough Ouachita Baptist team.
The UT Tyler women got off to a strong start thanks to a pair of big wins from doubles pairs
Kanika Sivaraman /
Tanvikhaa Saravanan and
Brooklyn Ross /
Violetta Khisamova. The Sivaraman / Saravanan would run out to a 4-0 lead before closing out the match at 6-2. The pair of Ross and Khisamova would never trail themselves as they won 6-1.
That gave the doubles point to the Patriots, and the momentum kept rolling for UT Tyler as they completed three quick wins in singles to run away with a 4-0 win.
Allison Schwartz has gotten off to an unbelievable start to the dual match season, and she continued her run of form with a pair of 6-1, 6-1 set wins in just 53 minutes.
Saravanan would follow just one minute later, as she rolled 6-2, 6-0 for her own straight set win. Suresh's win came just one minute later herself, coming away with set wins of 6-0, 6-3.
In both doubles wins and all three singles matches wins, the Patriots would trail for a grand total of two games as they put on a display of complete dominance on their way to their second straight win.
Despite dropping the doubles point, the Patriots men were able to get hot quickly in singles and completed the comeback win.
In those doubles matches, it was
Egor Shestakov and
Jordi Garcia Portell who put the first match on the board for the Patriots after a 7-5 win. However, the Tigers would claim both of the other doubles matches in tiebreakers as they took down the duos of
Gonzalo Fernandez Gil /
Joaquin Bianchi and
Carel Wessel /
Jonas Dixon by narrow margins.
With the 1-0 lead in favor of #13 Ouachita Baptist, the Patriots needed to get things going their way quickly to pull off the win. That momentum started directly with Fernandez Gil in the #2 singles slot, and he rolled in straight sets by scores of 6-4, 6-4 to draw the match even at 1-1.
Just two minutes later however,
Yudai Watanabe fell in straight sets by scores of 6-4, 6-4 to put the Tigers back on top. That flipped the match back into the hands of Bianchi in the #1 slot, and he posted his own straight sets win after winning a tiebreaker in the first and a 6-3 win in the second set.
With the match level at 2-2, the Patriots kept it going as Shestakov came away with the third straight sets win on the day after taking down his opponent with scores of 6-3, 7-5.
That brought the entirety of the match down to the #4 slot, where Wessel took on Matias Parzajuk. After Parzajuk took the opening set by a score of 6-3, Wessel responded with arguably the most dominant tennis of the day, winning the next two sets by scores of 6-1, 6-1 to complete the comeback for UT Tyler.
UT Tyler now hits the road for Magnolia, Arkansas as they get ready to take on Southern Arkansas in a Monday affair. That will be the final match of a three matches in four day stretch.
