WHAT A WEEKEND

Both Patriots tennis programs combined for a fantastic weekend as they went 5-1 over their six matches and also took down three teams associated with the top 25 in the latest ITA Rankings.

The Patriots women went a perfect 3-0 and kicked off their weekend with a dominant 6-1 win over RV Harding before closing out with a sweep of Ouachita Baptist and a comeback 4-2 win over Southern Arkansas.

The Patriots men's team came up short against Harding on Friday, but responded in a massive way with wins over #13 Ouachita Baptist and #25 Southern Arkansas to move their record out to 3-1 over their first four matches of the season.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

UT Tyler swept this week's Lone Star Conference Player of the Week awards as both
Gonzalo Fernandez Gil and
Tanvikhaa Saravanan each claimed their first awards of the season. Fernandez Gil finished off the week unbeaten in the #2 singles slot while combining with teammate
Joaquin Bianchi to earn a doubles win. Saravanan went 5-1 over the weekend with a perfect 3-0 record in the #2 singles slot and two doubles wins with teammate
Kanika Sivaraman.

THE SCOUTING REPORT

This weekend sees the Patriots head to Durant, Oklahoma to take on Southeastern Oklahoma State on Friday before facing off with Newman on Saturday in a neutral site affair also in Durant.

On the men's side, the Savage Storm are 2-1 in the young season with wins over UT Permian Basin and Delta State. In those wins, Juan Gonzalez has led the way in singles with a pair of straight set wins and has also paired with Marin Jurkovic to battle to a 1-0 record in those wins.

For the Savage Storm women, they sit at 2-3 also with wins over UT Permian Basin and Delta State. Chiara Matteodo is 2-0 in singles play in those victories and has paired with Michelle Markovic for a 1-0 record in doubles matches during wins.

The Newman men are at 2-3 on the season and have wins over Pratt and Maryville thus far. In those wins Pedja Kolaric has combined with teammate Isfan Makhmudov for a pair of doubles victories and has also gone 2-0 in his singles matches.

The women's team for the Jets is 2-1 on the year and have a pair of wins over Pratt and Maryville themselves. They are led by Dana Issabayeva who is a perfect 2-0 in her singles matches and has added in a doubles win with teammate Isabela Campos Bifano.

NEXT UP

Following this weekend's slate for the Patriots, they will get to play their first home tennis matches of the season as Mississippi College comes to town on March 5
th for a 1 p.m. start time.

Following that match, both UT Permian Basin and Western New Mexico will head to Tyler, Texas on March 9
th and 10
th for the opening of Lone Star Conference competition at Summers Tennis Center in 2023.
