Patriots Close Out 2022-23 With 92-78 Loss to DBU

TYLER, TEXAS – Three Patriots scored in double figures as UT Tyler closed out the 2022-23 season with a 92-78 loss at home on Saturday afternoon to DBU.

UT Tyler's Rashun Williams (15), Jordan Hairston (11) and Mohamed Diallo (11) did all they could offensively to try and keep pace with a DBU offense that went 16-for-28 (57.1 percent) from beyond the three-point arc on Saturday afternoon. DBU shot 57.4 percent (31-for-54) from the field for the game, and had four scorers in double-digit point totals.

UT Tyler produced a quality day offensively as well, going 30-for-60 (50.0 percent) from the field and 14-of-25 (40.0 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. That offense simply wasn't enough against a DBU scoring output that allowed the Patriots to pull away in the final 10 minutes of the contest.

UT Tyler trailed just 63-61 with 10:29 left on the clock, but an 18-5 run over the next six minutes of game action for DBU effectively put the game out of reach with 4:32 remaining. UT Tyler kept the deficit within single digits throughout the second half up to that point before the onslaught of offensive efficiency from DBU finally caught up to the Patriots.

Williams went 5-for-13 from the field and added four free throw makes to finish with a team-high 15 points on Saturday afternoon to close out his Patriot career. Sophomore Kyle Frelow led UT Tyler with eight rebounds, while Diallo added six boards to his 11-point effort in which he finished 5-for-6 from the field.

UT Tyler closes out the 2022-23 season with a 9-17 overall record and a 5-17 mark in Lone Star Conference play.
