Patriots Tennis Begins Eastward Road Trip

The Patriots will face tough competition this week as they head out for four matches in five days in three separate states.

HOT STREAK
 
#7 ranked UT Tyler men's tennis are winners of their last seven matches in a row, and #45 ranked UT Tyler women's tennis are winners of their last two and seven of their last eight matches.
 
Of those matches, the men's program has taken down a pair of top 25 opponents in the ITA Rankings and also kickstarted their Lone Star Conference schedule with a 2-0 record.
 
The Patriots women took down one opponent associated with the ITA Rankings and have also started their LSC slate with a 2-0 record. Of their last four wins, the Patriots women have allowed their opponent to secure just one point.
 
TOUGH SLATE INCOMING
 
Four matches in five days will see the Patriots square off with a bevy of strong opponents as both programs will see their progress thus far tested in a big way. For the Patriots men, this week's slate sees three opponents ranked inside the top 40 of the ITA Rankings including two inside the top 15. On the women's side, they also see a tough schedule as they see a pair of opponents ranked inside the top 25 of the ITA Rankings.
 
THE SCOUTING REPORT
 
Action gets started on Sunday morning as #7 UT Tyler men's tennis faces #8 West Alabama on their courts. The Tigers are 6-4 overall this season and are 4-2 in conference play. They are led by Lucas Hammond and Wilson Igbinovia in singles who hold records of 7-0 and 8-2, respectively.
 
The #45 Patriots women will also face a #8 West Alabama program on Sunday. The Tigers are 13-0 on the women's side and 7-0 in conference play. They are led by Hardija Vidnere and Heden Ly in doubles at a 10-0 record, and Haina Franco at 12-1 in singles play.
 
On Monday, the Patriots will transition to Montgomery, Alabama to take on Auburn Montgomery. The Warhawks on the men's side are 6-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play. They are led by Adrian Contreras and Thibault Jacq in singles and the combinations of Jacq / Antoine Renard and Giuseppe Bonaiuti / Muhamad Bedwan in doubles.
 
On the women's side, the Warhawks are also 6-3 on the year and are 3-0 in conference play so far. Leading the way for the Warhawks in singles is Regina Urbiola, and in doubles it is the combination of Estafania Garcia and Urbiola.
 
Tuesday will see the Patriots square off with Young Harris College, and on the men's side they hold a 9-3 record while being ranked #38 in the latest ITA Rankings. They are led in singles by Chimo Minguez Ribera at a record of 7-2, and in doubles by Minguez Ribera and Rodrigo Mendoza, who have a perfect record of 8-0.
 
On the women's side, the Mountain Lions are 6-6 in the early going, but are winners of five of their last six matches. Emily Bush leads the team in singles matches, coming in at 8-2 on the year. On the doubles side, it is the combination of Joselyne Chapui and Louise Ratiu who is at 4-3 thus far.
 
The final matchup of the big week for UT Tyler will see them head to Cleveland, Tennessee for a matchup with Lee. The men's team for Lee is currently ranked #14 in the latest ITA Rankings, and they hold a record of 9-0 so far. Jordi Dasi, Quin Groenendijk, and Drew Johnston lead in singles with records of 7-2, 7-1, and 7-1, respectively. In doubles competition Francisco Faria and Nico Ramirez hold a perfect 7-0 record.
 
On the women's side, Lee comes in ranked #24 in the latest ITA Rankings and hold a record of 6-1. The Flames are led by Ashleigh Simes in singles, who has a record of 5-2, and the pair of Maria Duarte and Macaela Maiz, who is a perfect 7-0 so far.
 
NEXT UP
 
Following this weekend's tough slate, both Patriots programs will get a long rest period before facing off against St. Mary's back on their home courts on March 24. That match will resume conference play for the Patriots and will take place at 10 a.m.
