#4 UT Tyler Reaches 30-Win Mark With Victories Over Texas Woman's

DENTON, TEXAS – #4 UT Tyler paired a consistent offense with continued effective pitching to score 4-3 and 11-2 victories over Texas Woman's on Tuesday afternoon.

The Patriots totaled 22 hits between the two games, eight of which went for extra-bases, to compliment quality starts from both Tatum Goff and Shea O'Leary. The two starters for UT Tyler both went for complete game efforts, striking out a combined 13 batters along the way.

Texas Woman's jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead in game one after a three-run homer in the bottom half of the inning, but couldn't find any additional offense against Goff throughout the remainder of the contest. UT Tyler chipped away at the lead with RBI off the bat of four different Patriots, and ultimately took the lead on an RBI single from senior Audrey Escamilla in the top of the fifth.

Game two was all Patriots as sophomore JT Smith hit a pair of homers and junior Courtney Plocheck a three-run blast of her own to extend a 6-2 advantage after two innings of play. O'Leary followed suit with Goff and rebounded after two early runs in the bottom of the first to retire the final 13 Pioneer batters she faced in order.

UT Tyler put the first run of the day on the board on their third at-bat of game number one on a Plocheck single through the leftside that scored Smith. The aforementioned three-run homer to combat the early run set up what would be a tactful Patriot comeback in the ensuing innings.

Smith cut the lead to one in her next trip to the plate with a single to right that scored sophomore Sam Schott, who drove in the tying run in the fourth on a double to right center that scored junior Michelle Arias. Goff did her part in the circle by allowing just a single base runner in the second, third and fourth innings to set the stage for Escamilla's go-ahead single in the fifth.

Escamilla delivered in a big way, plating sophomore Cassidi Mullen from second with two outs to put the Patriots ahead 4-3. Goff stranded a pair of base runners in both the fifth and sixth innings and then retired Texas Woman's in order in the seventh to make the one-run lead enough.

Plocheck and Schott both totaled two hits, while five different Patriots recorded an RBI. UT Tyler posted eight hits in the game one victory and Goff stayed perfect on the year with a 19-0 record.

Smith leadoff game two with a solo homer, and then watched as Plocheck came home to make it 2-0 on an RBI single from Arias after one trip to the plate for UT Tyler. Texas Woman's notched all three of their hits in the game in the bottom of the first, putting across their two runs of the contest before O'Leary settled in and was virtually un-touched the rest of the way in.

Junior Amanda Marek got a four-run top of the second started for the Patriots on an RBI fielder's choice after a fielding miscue by the Pioneers. Plocheck broke the game open with a three-run homer after a pair of strikeouts for UT Tyler, making it 6-2.

A hit by pitch and an error put the last of the Pioneer baserunners on board in the third against O'Leary before the Castaic, Calif. native retired the next 13 batters she faced in order to close out the day for the Patriot pitching staff. Sophomore Keely Castillo made it 7-2 in the fifth on an RBI single with two outs that scored Arias from second.

Another single with two outs with runners in scoring position, this time off the bat of Escamilla, tallied the eighth and ninth runs for UT Tyler in the sixth. Smith closed out the game the same way she started it, with a homer, this time a two-run blast to right that closed the books on the 11-2 win for the Patriots.

Smith finished her day 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI, while Arias went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Plocheck, Escamilla and Castillo all joined Smith and Arias to make up the five representatives with multi-hit efforts.

O'Leary struckout five and moved to 7-2 on the year with her fourth complete game effort of the season.

UT Tyler moves to 30-4 on the year and 18-2 in Lone Star Conference play with the wins.

The Patriots and Pioneers will close out the series with a 12 p.m. first pitch tomorrow afternoon.
