BIG WINNING STREAKS
Both the men's and women's teams for UT Tyler tennis have found their stride in the early going in 2023. The Patriots men have won their last four matches and are 5-1 on the season. In those five wins, three of those have come against opponents ranked inside the top 25 including wins over #13 Ouachita Baptist and #25 Southern Arkansas on their current four match winning streak.
For the Patriots women, they have responded in a big way to their 0-2 start by winning five straight matches. One of those matches came against a team associated with the top 25 poll in RV Harding, and all five have come at either a neutral site venue or have been a true road match.
WHAT COACH BIZOT IS SAYING
On the early season success for both programs: "We basically made two road trips in seven days and played in three different locations. The guys played three nationally ranked teams and to be honest I didn't anticipate us in being in this position. I thought this was going to be a really tough stretch and for us to be able to sit here and talk about our successes is a really good thing."
On the key pieces that have had a big impact: "Certainly getting the new players on the guys side have fortified our lineup. Yudai clinched a big match for us against Southern Arkansas and has been really big for us. Our top two guys have been a lot of nationally ranked guys, and that has been big. On the women's side it has been really key for us to have eight healthy players. We finally got to see Violetta play, Tanvikhaa is playing great and Brooklyn as well. I think everyone's games are starting to come along."
On the excitement of playing at home: "We are excited for sure. I think one of the underrated challenges in our sport is going on the road and winning and we've been able to do that. We've always had a lot of success playing at home in the past and getting more home matches is a priority because we have such a great facility and tennis is so popular in Tyler.
