Patriots Take Sweep over Cameron in Dominant Fashion

UT Tyler never looked back after a huge first inning and claimed their third series sweep inside Irwin Field of the season.

TYLER, TEXAS – The Patriots offense stayed patient at the plate and worked the ball all over the field as they collected a 20-0 shutout win to close out the series against Cameron on Monday.

The Patriots sent Nolan Cox to the bump to start the contest, and the Aggies reached on a leadoff single. Cox worked back with a pair of strikeouts sandwiched around a walk. Another walk ensued to load the bases, but he got the harmless flyball to left field to end the inning to get out of the jam.

In the bottom half of the first, Jordan Gochenour led off with a walk before scoring as Kaston Mason sluggd a double to left center. Two straight singles from Ethan Bedgood and Austin Ochoa would plate another run and put two on. Lane Hutchinson would reach on a fielder's choice to load the bases, and a wild pitch and a groundout plated the third and fourth runs.

Another run scored on a wild pitch, and three straight walks would again score another run. Mason in his second at bat of the inning singled for another RBI, and another wild pitch plated the eighth run. The Patriots would score six more runs in the inning from three singles, a sacrifice fly, and a hit by pitch as they took a commanding 14-0 lead.

Cox would head out to the hill, and he worked a 1-2-3 inning to set up the Patriots in the second.

With several substitutions made, the Patriots tacked on two more runs as Bedgood had an RBI double that scored Riley Lambert, and Bryson Adair drove home a run on an RBI single.

Cox again worked a 1-2-3 inning in the third, but the Patriots offense went scoreless for the first time in the game in the bottom half. That allowed Harrison Lee to take over, and he struck out the side around a pair of singles to keep the Aggies scoreless.

Lambert led off the fourth with a walk, and Cole Gaddis slugged his first career home run off of the scoreboard in right field to give the Patriots an 18-0 lead. Travis Onisto pitched the fifth, and after three singles from the Aggies, got a flyout and a groundout double play to end the inning and preserve the shutout.

Lambert would double home both Tommy van de Sanden and Tres Thomas in the fifth inning to give the Patriots their final runs of the game, and Julio Garcia worked a scoreless sixth inning with a pair of strikeouts.

After a scoreless bottom half of the sixth, Garrett Arredondo came on to pitch the seventh inning. He struck out his first two batters before allowing a walk, but would get the final out of the game on a groundout to first and preserve the shutout.

Harrison Lee picks up the win on the day and moves his record to 2-1 after striking out the side in his only inning of work.

The Patriots totaled 13 hits and 20 runs as they got several substitutions in the game throughout. 10 different players recorded a hit, and 11 different players recorded an RBI in the contest.

UT Tyler now moves to 28-12 on the season and 28-12 in LSC play as they continue to hold on to third place in the LSC standings. They are now 17-3 on their home turf, good enough for second in the LSC.

UT Tyler now sets their sights on their first non-conference opponent of the season as they take on #10 Southern Arkansas on the road on Wednesday afternoon.
