TYLER, TEXAS - #3 UT Tyler swept St. Mary's on Tuesday afternoon in convincing fashion with an 11-1 victory.
The victory over the Rattlers is the Patriot's 17th in a row, solidifies a seventh straight Lone Star Conference series sweep and runs the win total to 40 on the year. Starter
Tatum Goff picked up her Division II-best 26th win of the season, and the UT Tyler offense built an early 8-0 lead behind 12 hits in the ballgame.
Goff went 5.0 innings while allowing just a trio of hits, and then gave way to sophomore
Kaylee Davis for a perfect sixth inning. Goff allowed just one hit through her first four innings of action, and conceded the lone run of the series for the Patriots after a triple and single in the fifth for St. Mary's.
That lone run came after UT Tyler built the aforementioned 8-0 advantage in their first four trips to the plate. The Patriots drew three straight walks to begin the game, and scored a pair of runs on a sac fly to rightfield from junior
Michelle Arias and a wild pitch that scored sophomore
Sam Schott.
The offense really got moving in the top of the third with a pair of singles to start the inning from Schott and junior
Courtney Plocheck. Schott scored for a second time on another sac fly from Arias on the ensuing at bat, before a two-RBI single from senior
Avery Farr a few batters later extended that 3-0 lead out to 5-0.
Sophomore
Keely Castillo drove in the fourth run of the inning and sixth run of the game with an RBI single to right, before junior
Amanda Marek capped off the inning by scoring Farr on a sac fly to right to establish the 7-0 lead. Arias added a third RBI to her performance in the top of the fourth on an RBI single through the right side that scored Schott for the third time on the afternoon.
St. Mary's mustered their only run of the series in the bottom of the fifth with the aforementioned triple and single against Goff. UT Tyler quickly put two runners aboard with a leadoff double from Plocheck and an ensuing walk from Arias. Sophomore
Maddie Melton and Farr scored Plocheck and Arias on RBI singles to make it 10-1, and Castillo scored Melton on a sac fly to first base in foul territory to score Melton for the eventual 11-1 final.
Plocheck went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and a walk, while Arias and Farr both registered three RBI in the game. Melton and Farr both joined Plocheck with multi-hit efforts.
The Patriots move to 40-4 on the year and 28-2 in Lone Star Conference play with the sweep of St. Mary's, and now sit three games clear of second-place West Texas A&M in the Lone Star Conference regular season standings with 12 games remaining on the regular season schedule.
UT Tyler will return home this weekend for a Saturday-Sunday series against Western New Mexico.
