#3 UT Tyler Shuts Out Mustangs in 6-0 and 15-0 Victories

The UT Tyler pitching staff allowed just five hits on the day and the Patriot offense posted 24 hits to secure a doubleheader sweep over Western New Mexico

TYLER, TEXAS - #3 UT Tyler posted 24 hits and shutout Western New Mexico in 6-0 and 15-0 wins on Saturday afternoon.

UT Tyler used a complete game from Tatum Goff in game one and a 15-run bottom of the third inning in game two for wins no. 18 and 19 in a row on Saturday afternoon. Graduate student Shea O'Leary and sophomore Kaylee Davis completed the shutout of the Mustangs in game two by allowing just a pair of hits in the five-inning run-rule.

Goff remained perfect on the year with her Division II-best 27th win in the circle, tossing a 16th complete game with 7.0 innings of three-hit work. The Rusk, Texas native struckout 10, and then watched as O'Leary and Davis continued the outstanding work for the Patriot pitching staff in game two.

UT Tyler posted 10 hits in game one, six of which came off the bats of Sam Schott, Courtney Plocheck and Michelle Arias in the heart of the Patriot lineup. Sophomore JT Smith hit her 11th homer of the season on the second pitch of the ballgame to kick-start a two-run bottom of the first for UT Tyler.

Sophomore Maddie Melton scored Plocheck for the first of her three runs in the ballgame with a double a few batters later to make it 2-0. Arias plated Schott in the bottom of the third to make it 3-0, and then started a three-run fifth inning with her second RBI single in as many at-bats to score Schott.

Junior Audrey Escamilla made it 6-0 and capped off the scoring with a two-RBI single that scored Arias and Plocheck two batters later. Goff retired the first 12 batters she faced in order, and then stranded the three singles she conceded in the fifth and sixth to close out the top of the seventh with win no. 27 on the year.

Plocheck finished game one 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored, while Arias and Escamilla each totaled a pair of RBI.

The bottom of the third inning was the story of the game for the Patriots as they scored all 15 of their runs on 12 hits, all of which were singles, while batting through the lineup twice. The Patriots scored 12 runs, and then waited for a 30-minute lightning delay to pass before plating their final three runs in the frame.

10 different Patriots recorded a hit in the game, including a 3-for-3 effort from sophomore Cassidi Mullen. UT Tyler maximized their offense in that third inning with five stolen bases, and scored their first 12 runs prior to the delay with just a single out on the board.

Arias totaled three RBI and served as one of four Patriots with multi-RBI efforts in the ballgame.

The electric third inning at the plate wasn't overshadowed by yet another great outing from O'Leary, who allowed just two hits and struckout three to keep the Mustang offense off the board once again. Davis came on for the fifth inning of work in the circle, and worked around a walk to close the books on win no. 19 in a row.

The Patriots are a perfect 19-0 on the year at Irwin Ballpark, and now sit 42-4 on the year and 30-2 in Lone Star Conference play.

UT Tyler will look for Lone Star Conference sweep no. 8 in a row in tomorrow's series finale scheduled for a 12 p.m. first pitch.
