Box Score KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – UT Tyler women's tennis moved to 12-8 on the year and 6-3 in LSC play as they took down Texas A&M-Kingsville on Thursday afternoon.
The match got started with
Tanvikhaa Saravanan and
Kanika Sivaraman as they handled business in dominant fashion with a big 6-1 win. The winning kept rolling as
Allison Schwartz and
Akshaya Suresh pulled off their own big 6-1 win to ensure the doubles point would fall the Patriots way.
Over in singles, the Javelinas would get on the board first, as they took a 6-2, 6-1 win in #1 singles. However, the Patriots had an answer with wins in both #3 and #2 singles as
Violetta Khisamova ran away with a 6-3, 6-0 straight sets win and Saravanan followed shortly after with her own 6-4, 6-1 straight sets win.
Again the Javelinas would battle back with a win in the #4 slot by scores of 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 to take their second point of the match and cut the Patriots lead down to 3-2.
With the match on the line, Sivaraman in the #6 slot produced arguably the best tennis of the day, allowing her opponent to take just one game over a two set victory. Her scores of 6-1, 6-0 allowed the Patriots to clinch the match with their fourth point.
The final point of the day would come in #5 singles, as Suresh battled it out to a tiebreaking third set. After splitting the first two sets at 6-4, 5-7, Suresh would close the doors on her match with a 10-8 win in the tiebreaker to earn the fifth point for UT Tyler.
The Patriots will now set their sights on #30 Angelo State in what will be their final contest of the 2023 regular season. That match is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start in San Angelo, Texas.
