Trio of School Records Fall at East Texas Invitational

The Patriots posted a big day of competition with several top ten finishes and multiple event victories in Commerce, Texas.

COMMERCE, TEXAS – UT Tyler took down three more school records on Saturday as they wrapped up competition at the East Texas Invitational hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce.

Those school records started to fall with Aerin Thompson taking down the school record in the women's high jump. Thompson jumped her way to a fourth place finish at a height of 1.60 meters. Her height finishes .05 meters ahead of fifth and .05 meters behind third.

Thompson wasn't done with her big day, as she took down the women's 400 meter record with a time of 58.75 seconds. That time eclipses the previous record by just .03 seconds and was also good enough to finish in fourth by nearly two full seconds.

Brooklyn House joined the record breaking party in the women's discus throw as she broke her own school record in the event. Her throw of 46.90 meters passes her previous best by .24 meters and was enough for second place in the event. Her throw cleared third place by nearly 10 meters and finished just 1.14 meters behind first.

House would continue her solid weekend as she chased down a second place finish in the women's shot put. Her mark of 13.21 meters finished just .15 meters behind first place and nearly four meters ahead of third.

Ty McDaniel laid his claim to a pair of event victories as he wrapped up first place in both the men's hammer throw and the men's javelin. His mark of 54.04 meters in the hammer throw won by nearly 10 meters, and his mark of 43.79 meters in the javelin beat the field by nearly two meters.

Abeni Kratzmeyer took her own event victory in the women's pole vault, as she vaulted a height of 3.75 meterrs to claim the win by .40 meters. Sitting in that second place spot was Olivia Mitchell, who jumped 3.35 meters to bring home second place.

Mthabisi Mpofu also got his chance to shine in the men's long jump, as he cleared 7.10 meters to take home third place in the event. His mark cleared fourth place by .10 meters and finished just .26 meters shy of a second place mark.

In the men's 110 meter hurdles, the Patriots put together another pair of top five finishes as both Brandon Arenas and Tristan Meadors put together a second place and a fifth place run, respectively. Arenas ran a time of 14.35 seconds to finish just .05 seconds behind first place. For Meadors, he ran a time of 15.07 seconds to finish .15 ahead of sixth place.

In the Patriots final event of the day, Marigold Hunter put together a strong third place finish in the 5000 meters. Hunter ran a time of 19:28.90 to beat out fourth place by nearly 10 seconds and give the Patriots their 12th top five finish of the event.

UT Tyler now sets its sights on the J Fred Duckett Invitational to be hosted by Rice on April 22nd. That will be the final regular season meet for the Patriots as they head off for the LSC Championships May 4-6 in Lubbock, Texas.
