THE 5 SEED

UT Tyler has earned the #5 seed in the LSC Postseason Tournament after a 6-4 finish to their LSC slate and a 12-9 finish to their regular season overall. The Patriots finished the year with a pair of wins over opponents associated with the ITA Rankings, including a big 5-2 win over then #42 DBU.

PLENTY OF AWARDS

The Lone Star Conference released their postseason awards on Wednesday, and the Patriots were the recipients of eight total awards and one academic nod.

Leading the way was Violetta Khisamova, who earned both All-LSC Second Team Singles and Honorable Mention Doubles.

Allison Schwartz and Akshaya Suresh each earned All-LSC Second Team Doubles honors, and Schwartz tacked on to that with an All-LSC Honorable Mention Singles nod.

Tanvikhaa Saravanan also earned All-LSC Honorable Mention Singles honors, and Brooklyn Ross earned All-LSC Honorable Mention Doubles with Khisamova and was also named to the All-LSC Sportsmanship Team after demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship, character and ethical conduct while displaying the true spirit of competition and college tennis.

Ross added on to her big day with an LSC All-Academic Team honor, becoming just the second player in program history to earn the recognition.

REGIONAL ATTENTION

Wednesday also marked the third and final release of the NCAA Regional Rankings, and the Patriots were fifth for a second consecutive week. The Patriots slotted in just behind Cameron, St. Mary's, Angelo State, and Midwestern State.

The top four teams will make it to the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament, and the Patriots sit right on the cusp of making it for the first time in the Division II era.

THE 2022 LSC TOURNAMENT

Last season, the Patriots earned their first ever LSC Tournament victory after taking a dramatic win over #3 seeded Angelo State in a match that went all seven points before the Patriots took the 4-3 win. Following that matchup, the Patriots squared off with #2 seed St. Mary's, but would ultimately fall 4-1 to end their title hopes.

LAST TIME AGAINST THE RAMBELLES

The Patriots last squared off with the Rambelles just four days ago in San Angelo, Texas. In that matchup, the Rambelles would look strong, taking a 6-1 win over the Patriots despite drama in doubles and several competitive singles matches.

SERIES HISTORY

The two programs have squared off four times in their series history, with all of those matches occurring during the last three seasons. The Rambelles have gotten the better of the Patriots in three of those four matches, with two of those wins coming in San Angelo. The big win for the Patriots came in last year's LSC Tournament, and it occurred on the same courts the two teams will be taking on Thursday.

THE SCOUTING REPORT

Angelo State heads into the postseason at a record of 17-4 on the year and an 8-2 LSC record. They are winers of their last five matches, with their most recent loss coming back on April 1 to St. Mary's. Their lone other LSC loss came at the hands of Cameron back on March 11.

The Rambelles are led in singles by Eva Schwartz, who holds a record of 16-4 on the season and is a perfect 8-0 in LSC matches this spring. In doubles, it is the pair of Dianela Rodriguez and Letizia Corsini who combine for a 13-5 record overall and are 6-1 in LSC matches.

NEXT UP

The winner of Thursday's match will advance into the LSC Tournament semifinals to take on the winner of #1 seed Cameron and #8 seed Texas A&M-Kingsville. That match will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Friday with the winner then moving to the 1 p.m. championship match on Saturday at the Arlington Tennis Center.
