SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – UT Tyler track & field came away with a trio of top 10 finishes as well as several other top 20 placements on the final day of action at the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State.
The first pair of top 10 finishes for the Patriots came in the women's 1500 meter B section as
Tiffany Vargas and
Elayna Metzger claimed seventh and tenth place, respectively. Vargas ran a time of 5:03.99 while Metzger was just behind at a time of 5:05.08.
Metzger would continue her meet in strong form as she took home 15
th in the women's 3000 meter steeplechase run. She ran a time of 12:22.90 to finish nearly five seconds ahead of the next closest runner and just over three seconds behind the runner in 14
th.
Seth Andrade would narrowly miss out on his own top 10 finish as he brought home 11
th place in the men's edition of the 1500 meter B section. Andrade's time of 4:06.20 would finish just .31 seconds out of 10
th place on the day.
Andrade would not be done with strong finishes on the day, as he claimed 19
th place in the men's 800 meter B section in a time of 1:59.19. That time covered his nearest competitor by over 16 seconds, and was just over two tenths of a second behind 18
th.
Ashton Turner, fresh off the back of a strong finish in yesterday's 400 meter hurdles, would continue his big weekend as he claimed eighth in today's 110 meter hurdles finals. Turner ran a time of 14.25 seconds to match his personal best time. He was the second highest placing Division II competitor in the discipline.
Turner would be joined in the competition by
Brandon Arenas, who finished 14
th overall after a time of 14.44 seconds and just .16 seconds behind a top 10 finish of his own.
Rounding out the events on the day was the men's 4x400 meter relay, as the Patriots claimed 11
th place in a time of 3:26.64.
William Davis, Turner,
Nathan Williams, and
Gerald Rodriguez would combine on the relay, and would be the second highest placing Division II team.
