Rambelles Knock Patriots Out of LSC Tournament

The Patriots put up several challenging efforts on the day but came up just short to #4 seed Angelo State.

Box Score  ARLINGTON, TEXAS – UT Tyler women's tennis fought hard throughout the match that included a rain delay but ultimately fell just short to Angelo State in the Lone Star Conference Tournament.

In doubles, UT Tyler took a 2-1 lead in slot #2 as Brooklyn Ross and Violetta Khisamova battled tough, but the Rambelles rattled off five consecutive wins and took that match 6-2.

In slot #1, Allison Schwartz and Akshaya Suresh battled even tougher, as the two sides fought to an even 3-3 through the first six games. However, the Rambelles had the answer again, and won three straight games to take the set 6-3 and move into singles with a 1-0 lead.

In those singles matches, Angelo State took the early advantage, but several Patriots players remained stingy in their matches as they battled off the early run from the Rambelles.

Angelo State would take the first singles match in the #5 slot, as they won 6-4, 6-3 in what would ultimately be the only singles match to finish before the rain delay.

That delay saw the Patriots begin to claw their way back, as both Tanvikhaa Saravanan and Khisamova each tied up their matches at 1 set each coming out of the delay. Dnyanada Patil took her first set in her match as well, and the Patriots had some momentum rolling.

The second point of singles and third point of the match for Angelo State would come in the #4 slot, as they took down Allison Schwartz in a nailbiter at 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) that took a tiebreaker to complete the second set.

Needing just one more point to claim the win, the Rambelles claimed the first set in slot #1 against Ross. Ross would fall behind 3-1 in the second set, but came roaring back with two straight wins to tie the set at 3-3. The Rambelles would ultimately take the victory, winning three straight games to claim the set at 6-3.

The Patriots will now patiently await the NCAA Selection Show on Monday evening to see if their efforts throughout the season will allow for their selection into their first NCAA Division II Tournament in program history.
