Box Score ARLINGTON, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's tennis has moved into the Lone Star Conference Tournament championship match for the second consecutive season as they took down UAFS by a score of 4-0 in today's semifinals.
The Patriots began their sweep with a dominant effort yet again in doubles, as the pairs of
Joaquin Bianchi /
Carel Wessel and
Jordi Garcia Portell /
Jonas Dixon each came away with big wins.
Bianchi and Wessel would fall behind 1-0 after the first game, but gave up just one of the next seven to their opponents as they rolled to a 6-2 win in just over 30 minutes.
For Garcia Portell and Dixon, they put the hammer down as they ran out to a 4-0 lead through four games. The Lions would battle their way back to a 5-3 deficit, but the Patriots would clinch the winning point to end the match at 6-3 and give UT Tyler the doubles point.
Over in singles, the Patriots would nearly replicate their success from Thursday's match, as all but one Patriot won their first set. That early dominance led to a big momentum push from UT Tyler, and
Carel Wessel was the first man on the board.
Wessel controlled the lead throughout both sets of his match, as he comfortably won in straight sets by a score of 6-4 and 6-1 to give UT Tyler a 2-0 lead.
Just eight minutes later,
Egor Shestakov joined the party, as he also never trailed at any point in his two sets on his way to a dominant 6-2, 6-2 straight sets win.
That win gave the Patriots three of the four points necessary for the victory, and it became a race to see which Patriot would claim the winning point.
Joaquin Bianchi would ultimately be that player, as he ran out to a strong first set win at 6-3. In his second set, the Lions would battle their way to a 3-3 tie, but Bianchi won the next three games and never looked back on his way to another 6-3 win and securing the Patriots 4-0 win.
UT Tyler will now face off with #2 seed Cameron on Saturday morning as they look for their second consecutive LSC Tournament championship and become the first LSC Tournament back to back champion since Midwestern State in 2018-2019.
That quest begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning at the Arlington Tennis Center in Arlington, Texas.
