HOUSTON, TEXAS – UT Tyler track & field put together another strong showing at the J Fred Duckett Twilight Invitational on Saturday as another trio of school records fell and several Patriots finished in the top 10 of their respective events.
Aerin Thompson, fresh off of breaking a pair of school records last weekend, broke yet another record this week as she took down the women's 400 meter record in the afternoon running session. Thompson's time of 57.51 seconds placed her 18
th overall and doubled as the highest placing non-DI athlete.
Calista Segura joined the record breaking party in the women's 800 meters on her way to a 12
th place run. Segura ran a time of 2:15.96 to break the previous record by nearly a full second and would finish just over three tenths of a second from 10
th.
Elayna Metzger would be the final Patriot of the night to take down a school record, as she posted a ninth place finish in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase. Her run of 11:50.36 takes down the school record by just .02 seconds on her way to a ninth place finish.
In the women's pole vault it was
Abeni Kratzmeyer yet again showing off her strong form as she put together a new season best height of 4.02 meters on her way to taking an event victory. Kratzmeyer finished a full .25 meters ahead of the next closest competition.
Joining Kratzmeyer in the event was teammate
Olivia Mitchell, who put together a height of 3.17 meters to place eighth overall.
Ty McDaniel put together a pair of event victories last weekend and continued his strong form on Saturday as he finished fifth overall and only behind four Division I opponents as he threw the hammer 54.30 meters.
One of the best Patriots events of the day came in the men's 110 meters, as three Patriot athletes finished inside the top 12. Leading the way in the event was
Brandon Arenas, who posted a strong third place showing in a time of 14.51 seconds.
Ashton Turner would finish just behind in sixth place in a time of 14.82 seconds, and
Tristan Meadors placed 12
th overall at 15.23 seconds.
Turner would continue his strong day as he put together another top 10 finish, this time in the 400 meter hurdles. Turner ran a time of 52.98 seconds in the discipline to finish just four tenths of a second behind fifth place on the day.
Rounding out the day for UT Tyler was the men's 5,000 meters, and
Jason Alcala and
Jack Gipson would combine for a pair of top 12 finishes in the event. Alcala put together a run of 15:01.97 to place 10
th in the event, and Gipson was just behind at a time of 15:02.30 to place 12
th overall. The pair also combined to be the third and fourth best non-Division I placements in the event.
The Patriots will now get a week off from competition as they set their sights on the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships to be held May 4-6 in Lubbock, Texas.
