#2 UT Tyler vs. #3 Midwestern State
Friday, Apr. 27, 10 a.m.
Tyler, Texas | Summers Tennis Center
midwestern state SCHEDULE ROSTER STATS

A STRONG SEASON THUS FAR

The Patriots have been one of the top teams not just across the Lone Star Conference, but across all of Division II throughout the year. They have played to a tremendous record of 19-2 that included an 18 match winning streak with six of those wins coming against opponents ranked inside the top 50.

In that run, UT Tyler went a perfect 8-0 against LSC opponents in the regular season, on their way to claiming their second LSC Regular Season Championship in the last three seasons.

That run continued into the LSC postseason tournament, where they claimed wins by 4-0 in both their quarterfinals and semifinals matches. In the LSC Championship match, they would come up just short of a comeback win, falling 4-3 to Cameron.

POSTSEASON TENNIS AT SUMMERS TENNIS CENTER

Despite the narrow loss to Cameron, the Patriots had a strong resume that allowed them to claim the #2 seed in the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament and host a portion of that tournament for the second consecutive season and in just the second season of Division II eligibility.

Last season, the Patriots earned the #1 overall seed and got to host St. Mary's. The Patriots turned up the heat and delivered a strong 4-0 sweep that allowed them to claim their first NCAA Round of 16 berth in the Division II era.

NATIONAL ATTENTION

The Patriots were ranked #7 in the ITA Rankings this week for the fourth consecutive week this week. The Patriots have won the second most matches of anyone in the top 50, only trailing Saint Leo, who has 21 wins.

Leading the way for the Patriots in those rankings has been the singles play of both Joaquin Bianchi and Gonzalo Fernandez Gil. Bianchi ranks sixth overall in singles, while Fernandez Gil is ninth.

In doubles, the pair of Fernandez Gil and Egor Shestakov have made a meteoric climb up the rankings, coming in at number 11 after a perfect 10-0 record thus far. Joining them in the rankings is the pair of Bianchi and Carel Wessel, who rank 49th in the latest rankings.

SCOUTING REPORT

Midwestern State will roll into Friday's match at a record of 14-10 overall and 6-2 in LSC play after making it to the semifinals of the LSC Tournament. The Mustangs would fall to Cameron by a score of 4-1 in that match.

In the most recent match against UT Tyler, it was the Patriots who came out on top by a score of 4-3 in dramatic fashion as they completed the huge comeback to lay claim to the Lone Star Conference Regular Season Championship with the victory.

Leading the way in singles has been the efforts of Germano Setti who went 16-7 over the season while going a perfect 8-0 in his LSC matches. In doubles, Setti and Marcal Miret Avante have gone 11-11 this year while posting a record of 5-3 in their LSC matches.

UP NEXT

The winner of Friday's match will get the opportunity to continue their postseason journey in the NCAA Round of 16. Each of the two teams that advance from all eight regions will be re-seeded prior to competition beginning.

That tournament will begin on May 11 and run through May 16 in Lake Nona, Florida.
