Patriots Sweep Action Against Lubbock Christian on Senior Day

#7 UT Tyler Men’s Tennis and UT Tyler Women’s Tennis rolled to strong wins over Lubbock Christian on Saturday at Summers Tennis Center.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler Tennis took care of business in a big way on Saturday against Lubbock Christian on their way to a sweep on Senior Day.
 
On the women's side of the matches, the Patriots again used dominant performances in doubles to run out to the quick 1-0 lead. Brooklyn Ross and Violetta Khisamova rolled to a 6-3 win in just 34 minutes to put the Patriots at the advantage. Following just four minutes later, Tanvikhaa Saravanan and Kanika Sivaramn rolled to a 6-2 win to ensure the point would go the Patriots way.
 
Following in their footsteps, Allison Schwartz and Akshaya Suresh claimed a win of their own by a score of 7-5 to sweep the doubles matches.
 
In singles, the Lady Chaps would bounce back in a big way as they tied up the scoring with a 6-2, 6-2 straight sets win in match #6. In match #1, the Lady Chaps would take a second consecutive match in #1 singles by scores of 6-0, 6-2 to quickly take the lead at 2-1.
 
With the momentum all in favor of Lubbock Christian, Saravanan would battle it out in slot #2, and start to turn the match back in Patriots favor. She would claim a big straight sets win by scores of 6-4, 6-3 to even the match at 2-2.
 
That match seemed to flip the momentum of the entire match, as Sivaraman battled back from being down a set to claim a second set win in a tiebreaker at 7-6 to even the match. She would follow that set win with a huge 6-1 win to take the match and put the Patriots on match point.
 
The next two matches would also expand into three sets as the Patriots looked to close out the match. Khisamova in match #3 would fall in a tiebreaker in set number one, but came back with a roar in set two to win 6-4. The match would come down to the final set, and Khisamova kept up her strong play with a 6-3 win in set three to secure the fourth point necessary for the Patriots win.
 
In match #4, Schwartz would battle it out in hopes of securing a 5-2 win for UT Tyler, and she would drop the first set at 6-4. Not to be deterred, she would bounce back with a tiebreaker win at 7-6 to even the sets at one each. In set three, the match would again go into a tiebreaker, but Schwartz would come out on top with a 7-6 win and lead to a 5-2 final score.
 
The Patriots women now move to 5-2 and 11-7 overall as they continue their march towards the postseason.
 
For the #7 ranked Patriots men, they too would get out ahead in doubles with a dominant display that saw them take all three matches. Joaquin Bianchi and Carel Wessel would roll to a 19 minute 6-0 win to get the Patriots on the board. Following their lead, Jonas Dixon and Jordi Garcia Portell took just 30 minutes to dispatch their opponents at 6-3.
 
In the final doubles match, Gonzalo Fernandez Gil and Egor Shestakov would be forced into a tiebreaker, but would claim that tiebreaker at 7-2 to take the set 7-6 and allow for the Patriots sweep of the doubles matches.
 
Garcia Portell would be the first man up in the #5 slot to keep the momentum rolling, and he answered the call with a 6-2, 7-6 straight sets win to move the lead to 2-0.
 
Wessel in the #4 slot would show an equal display of dominance, as he rolled to a 6-2, 7-5 straight sets win to move the Patriots to match point at a lead of 3-0.
 
In matches #2 and #3, Fernandez Gil and Shestakov would each be in a race to determine who would earn the fourth point necessary for the Patriots win. Fernandez Gil claimed a 6-3 first set win, but the Chaps would bounce back with a 6-4 win to even the match. Shestakov would fall 6-3 in his first set, but he got it right back with a dominant 6-2 win to even the match.
 
Both matches would finish at nearly the same time, as Fernandez Gil claimed a huge 6-1 set win in the third set, and Shestakov claimed a win by a score of 6-4 to move the Patriots to a commanding 5-0 lead.
 
The Chaps would gain their first win of the match in the #6 slot, as they won in scores of 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to make the score 5-1.  They would follow that match up with one final win in the #1 slot, as they claimed a marathon three set win at 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 to claim their second point and finish the match at 5-2. 

For the #7 Patriots men, they move to an undefeated 7-0 in LSC play and stretch their season record to 16-1. They have now won their last 15 consecutive matches, and they will get a chance to claim the Lone Star Conference regular season title as they host Midwestern State.
