LUBBOCK, TEXAS – UT Tyler Track & Field wrapped up seventh place finishes for both the men's and women's programs on Saturday at the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The biggest points of the day came from the women's pole vault, as
Abeni Kratzmeyer solidified herself as one of the best pole vaulter's in LSC history as she claimed a second consecutive title in the outdoor pole vault. Kratzmeyer's qualifying mark allowed her to skip the first five heights, and she would be the only athlete in the field to clear 3.77 meters to claim the top prize. Kratzmeyer jumped ahead to 3.95 meters, where she would take all three attempts to clear the height and secure her second consecutive win and sweep the LSC pole vault gold medals in both indoor and outdoor track & field.
For the men's program, their points began in the men's long jump, as Mthabisi Mpofu delivered a three point performance on a sixth place finish. Mpofu delivered his best jump of the day in his fourth run, a 6.86 meter jump to take home sixth and finish just .05 meters from fifth place on the day.
Brooklyn House continued her stellar run at the LSC Championships on Saturday, as she picked up four more points with a fifth place finish in the women's shot put. House would qualify for the finals on her second throw that went 12.64 meters to plant herself in the top nine. In her fifth throw, House launched the shot 12.89 meters to secure fifth place and finish .27 meters behind fourth place.
Ashton Turner would add to the big day for the Patriots, as he got his day started with the 110 meter hurdle final. Turner would roll with a time of 14.18, and that locked up a second place finish by .04 seconds over the next closest competitor and earn eight points.
He continued his day over in the 400 meter hurdles, as he collected his second top three finish of the day. Turner ran a time of 52.14 seconds to claim third place and would finish just .09 seconds behind second place. His third place effort snagged six points for the Patriots men.
The Patriots women picked up 29 points in total for the weekend, finishing just two points from sixth and 15 points from the top five.
The Patriots men collected 27 points overall, finishing 23 points out of sixth and 36 points from the top five.
Next up for UT Tyler track & field will be the NCAA Tune Up meet as those athletes with NCAA provisional marks will get one final chance to improve those marks in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
