UT Tyler Drops First Decision of 2023 On the Road at Ouachita Baptist

ARKADELPHIA, ARK. – UT Tyler suffered it's first loss of the season on Thursday evening in 2-1 fashion against Ouachita Baptist.

The Patriots out-shot the Tigers by a 17-to-10 margin, but a goal in each half for Ouachita Baptist was the difference in the non-conference tilt. Senior Maddie Higgins deflected in a pair of shots to cut a 2-0 advantage in half for Ouachita Baptist with just over 20 minutes left on the clock, but the Tigers were able to hold onto the win in the waning minutes.

Higgins got the finish off a UT Tyler corner that bounced around the box off a host of players in the 69th minute to make it 2-1. Ouachita Baptist scored in the 31st and 61st minutes to defeat UT Tyler in what is the Patriot's first loss in a non-conference match in nine outings.

Junior Sydnee Garner had six shots on the night, a pair of which were on target, to lead the Patriot offense. UT Tyler forced the ball into the Tiger box in the last minutes to apply late pressure, but couldn't manage the equalizer.

Junior Launa Torrez added the fourth shot on goal attempt for the Patriots alongside Garner's pair of efforts and the Higgins goal.

UT Tyler spent the majority of the match on the Tigers end of the field, firmly controlling the shots battle and generating seven corners throughout the evening.

Keepers Daniella Wilken and Emily Clark each played a half in goal and combined for a pair of saves.

UT Tyler will travel to Searcy, Ark. for another non-conference road match on Saturday afternoon against Harding. Kick-off is set for 11 a.m.
